Thanks
Equal exchanges in 2000 when one objector was asked whether a senator had signed her objection she said she simply didn’t care... so her personal objection remained symbolic.
I suppose what I’m trying to establish is whether the 138 objections in congress to Penn are a result of legitimate concerns due to a confusion or lack of faith.... or whether they’re essential Maga hat wearing oafs in bad blue suits.

Well put.

legitimate concerns
100+ lawsuits, not a shred of evidence. They know all this and know precisely what they're doing. There isn't a single one of them thinks there's a legitimate fraud concern.

That's an argument for regulation or banning specific functions, perhaps the algorithms, rather than the entire platform.
Twitter for example remains just about possible to use in an 'algorithm free' way. I see a list of posts by people I follow in reverse chorological order. Which is basically how I use lfgss only here I follow a handful of conversations. Hence Twitter and lfgss are very similar to me.

'Statement' from Trump:
Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our right to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!
Just fuck off and die already.

68% of republicans voted to sustain the objection re Pennsylvania.
Which is the problem resonating through the entire trump ordeal. They’ll toe the party line regardless of legality or craven sociopathy - such is their hate and fear for the alternative.
Two party politics is a fucking joke.

I mean we could get rid of all social media and then have one approved state media channel instead.

The woman who was shot by a Capitol police officer was a 14 year veteran USAF officer turned absolute Qanon nutter who travelled from San Diego and was shot while trying to climb through a broken window in a barricaded door to the House chamber.

That's an argument for regulation or banning specific functions, perhaps the algorithms, rather than the entire platform.
The platforms themselves have perverse incentives. The platforms are broken.
They aren't connecting people through interests and across bubbles and social groups... instead they reinforce echo chambers.
They aren't acting in the interests of people and society, because neither of those is the paying customer. The paying customer are advertisers, and anything that supports advertisers will be done.
The business model and customer is the big difference... the platforms are broken. The algorithms that manifest through the platform are the result of the underlying economic model and incentives.

So don't ban social media, ban social media not paid for by the people posting content.

Social media are promoting the idea that the protesters were antifa. They're wearing t shirts mocking Auschwitz for fuck's sake.

Before it all kicked off I was watching the first series of objections speeches while doing the ironing #dadlife. Ted Cruz's (very feeble) argument was that because 39% of Americans believe that the election was rigged they should therefore pause the confirmation and have a further investigation. No proof or even allegations - just that fact that people now believe it to be true.
He and the other republicans objecting have clearly calculated that their support is now mostly Trumpist and they need to keep that base onside. Cruz will run in 2024, I presume thinking that Trump will be out of the picture and he can ride in on the coattails. Nothing to do with political beliefs -solely about how to get/maintain power. -

ah yes ted cruz - whose wife trump called ugly and whose father trump accused of assassinating jfk. what a worthless, wormlike shell of a human being.

I read this last week. Really interesting and fairly compelling. I've been off Facearse for over a year, Twitter three weeks and counting. Just Insta and YouTube (and WhatsApp) to go. YouTube will probably stay, I'm just not signing in and don't bother with recommend content

That beard / shaved neck combo is just horrible
I think a lot of the problem isn't in the public bits of social media, although that is a recruiting ground, but on the private groups where people re-enforce each others opinions without challenge.
