ABC News Live is showing the Washington DC curfew being enforced by
'riot police' and possibly the National Guard. -

Being reported the person shot has died
Could be that the strict gun laws in DC have kept this to a minimum? Out of state 'protesters' might not have been able to bring in their own firearms if they'd flown in (drivers less so)?

Let's hope this was a one off crazy day but the ease the protestors were able to disrupt proceedings I think more will come. With egging on from Trump.

Picking up chatter that it was Pence who requested the Virginia Natl Guard to be deployed; which if true would mean an unconstitutional use of his powers as VP. There’s a real possibility that Pence + cabinet might invoke 25th Amm. to remove trump, and it’s nearly certain articles of impeachment will be drafted, but trump could seize on Pences actions to claim he’s the victim of an attempted coup.

This is pretty amazing report from ITV. Journo has some balls.

Could he do that in his capacity as President of the Senate to defend the Capitol? It may be in his power?

Pence apparently started refollowing Trump's Twitter about 20min after he stopped.
-
• #13891
But he really felt he was his own man for those 20 minutes, and it was a proper buzz. Then it got a bit scary, so he stopped.

I’ve been mulling this over and it’s a proper mess of events.
Pence has no authority to deploy or authorise deployment of the National Guard, afaik; only the President and the state governor can deploy the guard.
However, the Virginia state Natl Guard has been deployed to the Capitol, at the request of the DC mayor, presumably in consultation with Pence or with Pelosi. This legally is fine.
However, the NY Times is tweeting that Pence authorised deployment of the DC national guard, which is separate from Virginia’s. This is, afaik, illegal.
I believe the legal term for this scenario is ‘clusterfuck’.

“As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy,” the Twitter Safety account said in a tweet thread.
“This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.”
The social media giant added, “Future violations of the Twitter Rules, including our Civic Integrity or Violent Threats policies, will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”

Congress back at work. Sounds like the blame for today is being squarely laid at Donald’s feet.

Good. Though, of course they don't dare look at the systematic issues that got us here, because that would result in Biden being held to a standard of accountability too.
