  • She is the richest Senator and campaigns in her personal private jet

There's so many rich people like this. What's the matter with them? I always think they must have absolutely no imagination; why aren't they off living in utter luxury, or climbing mountains, or saving orangutans or something?

Instead they get their fulfillment from making peoples lives that much harder.

Isn't it often (quite apart from wanting yet more wealth/influence) that political power is attractive because it's something they don't have yet? Also, if you assume that, while few wealthy people are as damaged as Trump, she does have a secret craving to be/feel popular and not just wealthy, that people actually like her, I'd say that's more than enough motivation.

Yeah - but to what end? She could have been doing whatever anyone could ever want to, instead she tied herself to a stressful civil service office for some stretch of time.

Well you might find it stressful, but you're just an ordinary oik, right? These people see themselves as 'high achievers' and better than others, e.g. they don't even know the meaning of 'stress'. That, and it's quite possible that they don't actually feel the pressure of public service and/or do a terrible job in such a position.
