  • @amac090 genesis are quite responsive in my exp - could email them the question enquiries@genesisbikes.co.uk

  • I love my flyer. Got it on here back in February. Had some Velo Orange Crazy Bars which were just a touch too crazy so I put some Ergotec Space ones on.

    Got some guards in the shed from a friends old bike and I can’t think of anything else I want to do to it but that is also why it’s so good. Maybe a longer stem one day but that would only be for the sake of it.

    it’s just so low maintenance and exactly what I wanted from it.

    Pics from various modes (just different bags really)

  • Tidy that - flyers ftw

  • What happened to the 650b crimping plan?

  • It is pretty good for glasgow potholes tbf. Don't want to completely slate it as it does have some good points.

  • Still havnt got round to it! It means totally stripping the bike down and I just use it too much at the moment to stomach doing that. Maybe when the weather gets better and the road bike comes out!

  • I'll give that a crack, cheers

  • I got a 700 x 42c Continental Sport Contact II in 2016 CdF. I reckon there would've been room to go slightly larger, maybe 45c, but I am yet to test this theory.

  • Seconded - especially at the front. Was tightest around the chainstays, acres of clearance on the seatstays.

  • It's the hub weight comments that are swinging it for me. I know IGH's are heavy and it will result in the rear of the bike being heavy - I guess I should have asked: is it more noticeable than a 3 speed hub on the Brompton? That's the only comparable I have.

    Weight aside, I'd expect that bike to plow through potholes!

  • Ah good to know. A mate has some 45s (can’t remember what now) that I wanted to try in there. And yeah @S_b the limiting factor seems to be the chainstays near the BB. Shitloads if room everywhere else.

  • Theres this guy on mtb-news that runs 2.0 Continental Racekings in his, biggest i've seen so far on the net:

    pictures of cleareances further down the thread. i think its too tight though.

    on my 2020 cdf and the old 2016 day one 45mm without guards was rideable without issues.

  • Ah cheers for that. He’s got the same version as me (same colour even) so that’s a good guide. Yeah I reckon that’s not enough mud clearance for the kind of riding I’ve been doing, but that’s useful to see.

  • 2015 models onwards had much better clearance AFAIK

  • I don't really notice the hub weight to be honest.

    I might benefit from putting different tyres on, came with Maxxis overdrive excel thought they seem to get good reviews.

  • Interesting that Genesis aren't making any MTBs anymore, other than the Longitude, which is more of a tourer anyway. I guess they've probably been left behind in the arms race of boutique branding and progressive geometry.

  • Saracen and Genesis are basically the same company.
    Saracen = MTB/Off Road
    Genesis = Road/Gravel

  • First ride on the Longitude today. What a fun bike. (Excuse clip on guard!)

  • An update at this post https://www.lfgss.com/comments/15376626/ .

    There is a rub with with WTB Venture 27.5x47. I believe that mostly comes from the mud and likely because I used fenders. It did not allow mud to clear before reaching the narrowes part of the chain stays.

    My eyes are set on CDF 2021 frame.

  • Don’t suppose anyone has an XS CDF for sale?

  • Slowly been updating my Croix de Fer, first posted at the very start (https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13831235/) Got some Brooks tape to go on still and cable it all back up again. Slight snowy interruption yesterday.
