Definitely go by actual measurements not sizes, I couldn't believe it and ordered two different sizes to be sure.
I'm usually a small/medium but the large worked for me. -

To be honest watch the videos on measuring a current garment that fits and then compare that with their size charts.
No need to go to them.

I bought a rather beautiful vintage army jacket recently, but the sleeves are a little too short. there's not much fabric to turn down in the cuff nor in the shoulder. What options do I have for extending the sleeves? Obviously finding the same cloth might be hard. It's in an army green, would adding a contrasting (perhaps blue) cloth be trashy? Has anyone seen this sort of thing done nicely?

For socks I usually go with Finisterre, they last ages and are good value for money. The perishing underwear I get from H&M needs upgrading though.
