• Got lots of wrench time lately, just like everyone else so here’s a look at what I’ve got going on. My pile of bikes contains:
    Cherubim sportif style frame
2x Surly Pacers, one for me one for Mrs.
    Bridgestone Wildwest
    Iribe NJS
    Raleigh twenty (non folding)
They all “need” something or other done to them at any given time so I’ll post in this thread whenever I do something cooler than lubing chains and swapping brake pads.

  • What's your plan for the twenty?

  • The Cherubim had map/Ahearne bars and a dirt drop stem for a while but I wanted more hand positions so a set of Ritchey evo curves and my VO tall quill went on. Feels alright, looks pretty dorky but I’ve always wanted a Rivendell so that’s no big deal. With the VO stem getting taken off the Raleigh, I replaced the cockpit on that bike with the map bars and a suuuuuper tall dirt drop I found at the co-op 5 years ago, seemingly for just this purpose. And after a miserable ride on the Iribe the other day with some narrow drops, I threw on some fun carefree soma sparrow bars. Then I rode it around for a minute and remembered I don’t have a short enough stem for sparrows and put on some Sakae POWERBULGE bars that came as OEM on the Bridgestone. Very summer fixie.

  • The twenty is gonna be a bash around town bike, and also brazing practice.

  • Nice. I love the cherubim and the iribe !

Of you are keeping the stock forks on the 20 I'd recommend Sheldon's headset upgrade
The stock headset top race has no bearing just a plastic ring, swap it out for a cheap 1" thredless jobby and use the og top nut to lock it down. Big improvement for minimal cost. I used an m part one from sjs.

  • Did you buy the wheels stock or build them up? Any clearance issues with running a cassette on it?

  • Thanks, I’ve had a ton of fun on them both. I’ll do that headset upgrade on the twenty for sure, Sheldon and John Allen have been my guiding lights building that thing. I had a thread a little bit ago where i was building the twenty, I kind of go over some of the weird clearance issues I had with that cassette and derailleur.

  • New cool guy mash tape for the Pacer, feels so nice. Don’t mind the stem it was in a cheap lot on eBay that I bought to try different lengths and angles. When it finally gets replaced should I go with black or silver?

  • With regards the Pacer, all black, looks great with full black finishing kit and red frame, only reason I got rid of my Pacer was because I got a good deal on the Mr Pink I use now.

  • Your Pacer looked proper, it and your mr pink make me want a square taper crank for mine as soon as the hollowtech bb dies.

  • Twenty is looking rad with gears and that stem is perfect.
What are you going to braze on to it? I put v brakes on to mine. Well worth it as the original brakes aren't the best.
How is the clearance with those tyres? I need some new ones. I tried some 2.1s I have but it's too tight. I have seen a good deal on big bens in 2", do you think they will fit?

  • Brake posts, a front derailleur tab, and cable stops are on the brazing menu. The tires I’m running are 1.95” wide, I’d hesitate to go wider but if the big bens are a reeeealy good deal then I’d say go for it, .05” isn’t that much of a difference. Do you have 406 or 451 rims? Probably makes a bit of a difference.

  • You might have the best twenty going at that point. I have 406. Might get the same as you in that case, was only saving a tenner or so.

  • I like the Tioga s a lot, I bet you will too. Waiting for the Rene herse 406 extra lights to drop once this mini velo thing reaches critical mass.

  • Haha it will zip along with those. I'm having a dilemma whether to get tiogas or some dirt cheap 2 for £15 jobbies off ebay. It's only a beater after all.

  • Updated the cherubim with an ostrich rando bag and Nitto cnc stem, and some old Cinelli cloth tape.

  • Broke in some new tires on the Pacer, 32mm Fairweathers. The first tires I bought for this bike were 28mm versions of the same model, they feel great.

  • Got myself an Eno hub laced up to an open pro for Christmas and just finished a shakedown ride to/in the forest. Fixed gear underbiking on the trails feels so good, been missing that since I sold my univega 3 years ago.

  • Cut a nice lil scallop in the front fend- I mean mudguard to make it look more expensive and made a milk carton flap. Also removed the ol lopsided front rack and massive rando bag, it didn’t really pay its way like the little super c does on my shorter rambles.

  • that bridgestone is SOOO good!

    lovely bikes all round

  • Ty! The bstone is in the shed with a wore out rear rim, waiting on me to get over my fear of wheel dishing...

  • Free light forever!!! Let’s see how this radial lacing thing goes, the only spokes I had were from a 26” wheel and they ended up being just the right length for putting an open pro and LX dynamo hub together.
