  • Presumably value engineering, as I'm pretty sure my old Vagabond has a replaceable hanger.

  • @Josh my guards give me same coverage and after a country lanes road ride the other day might as well not have had guards on. If you buy enough material for 2 sets, I'd buy a set!

  • Fair enough.

That's good to know, I'll keep a look out for an older Vagabond frame.

  • I have a an older vagabond as well - when they did the white frameset. Either 2017 or 2018 and it definitely doesn't have a replaceable hanger.. Unless you completely mangle the hanger they are pretty easy to straighten if bent.

  • I seem to go through phases where I routinely bend hangers on the mountain bike. A replaceable hanger just seems like a good idea for bikes that will probably venture off road.

Good to hear that they can be straightened out though.

  • I think they started using replaceable hangers when aluminium became a common frame material, because you risk breaking an aluminium hanger if you try to bend it back because the material work hardens .

Unless you’re going to ride the same trails on your gravel bike as you do on your mtb, you’re probably fine.

  • First ride of the year !

  • Nice. How are the Mezcals?@acinq

  • So far so good, today was a good mix of wet sand, gravel, mushy dead leaves and cobbles. Haven't slipped once. They are quite noisy on tarmac.

  • Didn’t know they came in 2.1

I have got some Conti Cross Kings in 2.0 which went up really nicely on Prime Kanza rims.

  • Anybody running 40mm tires with mudguards on their Croix de Fer? If yes - which mudgard width fits?

32mm gravelkings with 45mm bluemels atm and got the urge to size up, since this is being used more and more offroad, but still want mudguards for commuting.

  • Pretty sure my 2015 CDF is replaceable. Not traditionally needed with steel frames.

  • Which model year is this? I’ve got a 2015(?) model and can’t seem to fit anything more than 33/maybe 35 without guards and always wanted bigger!

  • 2020

the 2016 day one with the identical geometry and similar style dropouts i had before already was capable of 37mm slicks with guards - just can't remember which mudguard width i had on that thing. either 45 or 53mm bluemels primus.

  • My two, I love them both. I can’t believe how badly they have butchered the new Flyer. Unreal.

  • This flyer is excellent! I have a similar :)

  • My 2016 CDF doesn't have a replaceable hanger, never had a steel frame which has had one.

  • Note the silvers @youramericanlover (they work)

  • Thank you, you obviously have exquisite taste.

  • same here with the same in medium. it clears 38/40mm but i am on 35mm wtb tyres and wouldnt want to go any bigger with mudguards.
edit: the seatstays are the limiting point.

  • Is it possible to order a replacement derailleur hanger directly from Genesis, or do I need to go through a shop? I haven't broken mine (yet) but would ideally like a spare hanger for my 2017 Datum (QR rear version).

  • What’s the biggest anyone’s fit (700c) in a CDF without guards then? I’ve currently got 40s but it looks like there’s bags more room at all the usual limiting points.

  • Ah thanks. I’ve got 28 marathons with guards at the moment (big for 2015!) and want something a little more plush. Have had 32mm conti XKings at some point but it seemed a bit tight so good to know I can go bigger.
