  • That's an honest reply. Let's say he is considered as (one of?) the greatest climber(s) of all time. In my memory, he one of the first with a nickname that gave the inspiration of today's nicknames: the Eagle of Toledo. There are great stories about his races and break aways in mountain stages, back then maybe not live on telly, epic stage reports in the papers of those days. Now I'm a bit of a romantic and I daydream about being a cyclist in those days. I ride retro rides like eroica and retro tour of flanders every now and then. I realise that is a bit of a niche fetish, but I also cannot understand a lack of recognition for these legends of the past. Next year I will vote for sure for my old man's contribution to this list. Just because Virenque is a cunt.
