It says Sour, quite clearly I thought

Anyone had experience with Northwave or Giro shoes? Thinking of getting some Giro Sectors or Northwave Ghost XCM 2... usually I’d go for Sidi but feel like I need something different

I went from SIDI’s (road and mtb) to Giro Privateers and have been super happy with them. I have a pair of the Velcro ones and the lace ups and I particularly like the latter. I think if you’re not fussed about boa dials I r a super light shoe the privateers are hard to beat price wise. People say the fit is quite narrow but you can order half sizes (U.K.) or they do a wide fit version of some models.

Thanks for the feedback, I know a bunch of people that have the Giro road shoes but not the MTB... same with Northwave infact. Not too sure about the whole lace thing tbh.. the Boa system seems pretty good

I would steer clear of the cheaper Giro shoes, they're neither stiff nor strong IME. The top end stuff might be fine. Sidi shoes of all levels are solid.
Lacing is quite good for people who get numb feet. Boa is good, two boas better.

Sidi FTW. Indestructible.
I also have some Giro Empire VR90 also v good. Very easy to clean.

Thing is... I know where I am with Sidi... had both road and MTB and have been amazing

How do you find the velcro and lace up versions compare? I've got a pair of the older, velcro style that I absolutely love but are getting absolutely knackered. If I had the option to replace them like for like I would but the lace version seems to have replaced them!

This isn’t remotely what you asked but I’ve got a pair of the Jarin so here’s a mini review.
Quite comfortable and the carbon sole is really stiff for when you’re riding on the road however very slippery when you’re reclipping after touching down on dodgy off road trails. Also very poor drainage when you’re inevitably trekking through shin deep water in UK winter ‘gravel’. Also £££.
Also have a pair of the old Giro Privateers with Velcro. They’re less stiff but undoubtedly a better shoe for off road at this time of year

The EC90 sole is great on the bike but too stiff to do any proper walking in.

I've both giros and northwaves, different shoes mind. I killed the boa on the northwaves and know some other people with the same issue.
As for the giros, I've the privateers laces and I love them. Durable, great colour to hide dirt, easy cleaning and nice to walk in, yet stiff enough for cycling. -

To be honest I can't say I notice any difference in sole stiffness and walking experience between the two but I do feel that the lace-ups offer better fit thanks to the adjustability. I thought I would hate having to be mindful of tucking the laces out of the way but the elasticated loop over the lace bed actually does a really good job of this. My velcro ones have been relegated to bad weather commuting and the lace ups get used for all other rides.

Yup - got a pair of Sidi Drako 2 which have been used 5/6 days a week for the last month.
What would you like to know? -
• #15168
Hmm, gravel shoes now eh...
-
• #15169
Looks like we’re all dangerously close to an agreement in the gravel thread. Carbon soles aren’t ideal

IMO I find that dial shoe fastenings like Boas aren’t very gravel friendly. Great for road but they can clog and jam easily in very muddy conditions.

Essex gravel has gone to the dogs...

Has anyone replaced the hoses on SRAM Force levers (regular non AXS version) with non SRAM hoses? From what I'm reading the banjo on the SRAM hoses is not removable or reusable, so I'm wondering if there are any fittings kits so I can use braided hoses?
-
• #15174
Looked and looked but nope. Jagwire don't have fittings for non-Red/ASX levers and couldn't find anything else viable. $40 for SRAM ffs.

I literally have no idea what is going on there...
