• I went from SIDI’s (road and mtb) to Giro Privateers and have been super happy with them. I have a pair of the Velcro ones and the lace ups and I particularly like the latter. I think if you’re not fussed about boa dials I r a super light shoe the privateers are hard to beat price wise. People say the fit is quite narrow but you can order half sizes (U.K.) or they do a wide fit version of some models.

  • Thanks for the feedback, I know a bunch of people that have the Giro road shoes but not the MTB... same with Northwave infact. Not too sure about the whole lace thing tbh.. the Boa system seems pretty good

  • I would steer clear of the cheaper Giro shoes, they're neither stiff nor strong IME. The top end stuff might be fine. Sidi shoes of all levels are solid.

Lacing is quite good for people who get numb feet. Boa is good, two boas better.

  • I've both giros and northwaves, different shoes mind. I killed the boa on the northwaves and know some other people with the same issue.
As for the giros, I've the privateers laces and I love them. Durable, great colour to hide dirt, easy cleaning and nice to walk in, yet stiff enough for cycling.
