  • My goal is to train as if Deadwater is happening. Last year I set loads of goals and didn't really achieve any apart from new 5k pb on new year's day, partly because everything was cancelled but I also didn't enter events that would have let me try to achieve those goals. I also kept thinking about setting out and following a training plan but that hasn't happened.

So this year I'll focus on one big goal in the summer and then maybe think about something for the autumn/winter after that. Still got an EfM entry for this year so there's an obvious one. Just depends on recovery after DW.

  • I've used a Physio in canary wharf that has a focus on running. I'll dig out the name later.

Most physios will have specialised interests though.

Remember to do the exercises they recommend though. I don't, and I'm paying for a year of sedentariness with knackered knees.

  • Goals:
Continue to develop my base by upping volume and including doubles.
Include strength work into my weekly routine.
    Avoid injury.

  • Goals:

    • sub-2:30 marathon
    • don't get injured trying!
  • Those vapourflys look 🔥

  • I’m not really a runner, but have started to add a bit of variety to my exercise regime, as I’m mindful I’m in my fifties and want to keep active as long as I can.

I’ve only one real goal for 2021, which is to do a sub 20 5k. Current PR is 21:10 so I think it’s achievable. With no cycle racing for the next few months, it’s going to be my first goal of the year.

  • Did a sub 20min 5km this year (just). And was following a HM training plan, which I actually finished but it ultimately injured me before having a proper crack at seeing what time I could do. I pretty much gave up cycling too whilst I was doing this.

This year I think just keep clocking a reduced but steady amount of kms - nothing huge, but remain consistent. 2-3 runs per week to keep enough form to comfortably and enjoyably run 10-12km. Want to get back into cycling more which I have done last couple of months.

Would love to do a sub 40min 10km, and always thought if I just focused a bit I would be able to crack it. What I learned this year is that I am way off that and I'm not realistically going to achieve it without serious dedication, and even then I'm not confident i'd I physically have it in me.

I don't like that running reduces the amount I cycle, but I don't seem to be able to let running go for some reason. As a result, both of them are compromised. Would be interested to know if that bothers any of you.

    Sorry for long random post.

EDIT - my comment re sub 20 5km wasn't in response to andyp's post - looks like a boast! Hadn't refreshed page before I posted.

  • Goals: To go back to 6,7,8 miles plus without groin, hip and knee pain. To be patient. To accept I’m 44 years old and won’t be doing pbs all over the place. To feel free to run for my head’s sake.

Possible bonuses: More miles. Accidental half marathon.

Note - I’m more a jogger than a runner really.

It did, but I took up triathlon so I'm now thoroughly mediocre in 3 disciplines (but a passable triathlete as a result)
    Not actually joking

  • For 2021: continue the glacially-slow progress back to being able to run a few times a week. Nothing gives you the lift that a run does. Mid-50s, that’s harder than I expected, I have to be realistic!

    Other hope-to-do-these activities for 2021:
Park kickabouts that don’t end in three days of pain.
    More and longer bike rides.
Rolling around some new concrete on a skateboard.
Regular swims again (Tier restrictions dependent).

  • I can see how that happens, but the thought of juggling a third I couldn't cope with. Plus i only like swimming when I have a lane to myself (and preferably a whole pool).

  • I don't like that running reduces the amount I cycle, but I don't seem to be able to let running go for some reason.

I'm with you on this. I've spent 2020 as more runner than cyclist. Want to improve my running but miss the cycling fitness to just up and go on a big hilly Peak District ride when pals suggest it without feeling like it's going to end me.

My vague intention is to keep up my running as is and slowly try and wedge cycling in week on week

  • yeah exactly same here. Can't keep up with cycling mates anymore so my rides are restricted and I miss that social aspect.

So I guess my plan is opposite to yours, and prioritise bike and wedge in runs on non-cycle days.

Sorry all, I'm jamming the thread with negative non-run vibes.

  • I’m not really a runner...
    ... Current PR is 21:10

    That’s pretty good for not-a-runner!

  • He can easily get under 5. I expect it to be knocked out the park by February.

  • Goals.
    To improve 5km time
    To improve 10km time
Once a week/month run/cycle to Beckenham place park and enjoy the mud over there.

  • Anyone got any specific targets for 2021?

As usual, the main goal is to get rid of the excess weight, the rest of the goals (PBs/etc) should follow easily, but not setting any targets for those in 2021, that can all follow in 2022 when (hopefully) shit is back to normal.

    So my only goal is:-

    • Sub 75kg by the end of 2021.
  • Simple goals for me. 1000km of running, a bit faster than 2020 while keeping up the roller skiing and other cross training.

2020 has been my first ever injury free year I think.

  • More focused running for me this year as i really need to knock 10-15 seconds per kilometer of my 5k to half marathon pace as i keep getting caught on the closing stages of tri/duathlons. That top spot has been slipping through my fingers almost every time 😡

  • Punchy. Good luck!

    Goals:
    BGR
    Welsh 3000s
    Abraham's Tea Round

Life and lockdown look like #1 is going to be a big ask though. I need to recce and complete before end of May.

  • Did you get anywhere with this? I only came up with alpkit foundation, local athletics clubs or things like city games

  • Run more - 3252km
Run faster - sub 1:30 HM
Run further - one 50km run

Had a pretty good year for volume clocking up 2500km but no races/events and lack of gym has meant I’ve suffered from a lack of purpose and running has just become a default exercise. I was in a great place of gym, swim and running so just to go back to that would be great.
Highlight of the year was doing the July accumulator with @hats
Lowlight of the year was doing the July accumulator with @hats 😂

  • 2021 Goals

Consistent training, race in new club vest, keep on top of Mortons neuroma symptoms- they're not going away but are currently manageable with care. If (v.unlikely) Escape from GB was to take place then give it another go as a long walk home.

  • What club did you join? You're in Manchester right?
