Isn’t it a bit like having a pub bore permanently installed on a stool at the end of the room? One of those cunts that goes on and on about how they used to have an Impreza but now drive a Shogun.

After a while, and with some reluctance, you have to tell them to go

Babes, that’s how all the cool kids do it in insta, that way you take pics of it retracted so you can pretend you don’t have a tv and you’ve actually got enough interesting things to say to each other all winter.

Take out fireplace, install climbing wall

That radiator looks like it could double as a barrier.

YESSS, 18mm ply is too fancy.

It looks great though.
Obviously you'll need to take all the spindles out again to sand the floor.

Anyone on here know about permitted development rules for loft conversions?
In particular is end of terrace classed as terraced or semi-detached and is the 40/50m^3 limit all of the converted space or just the extra space created (so the original roof space does not count towards it)?
Just idly pondering at the moment but something I'd probably look to do eventually.

Pretty sure end of terrace is still classed as a terrace. The volume is additional space created so not including existing roof volume but if you have existing additions (i.e. A former owner added something) that does need to be included.

Cheers, that's what I suspected but wasn't really sure.
Time to get measuring (even though it's probably not for another 5 years or so).

We ended up with dutch gables to squeeze under the limit

I did something similar

It will very likely end up like that. Good thing is the brick appears solid.

I actually think it's a really cool feature.
This. Keep it!
It's not an original feature, but it does have a lot of character. Do you really want some bland fireplace like everyone else has got instead? That's mad.
I would do the rest of the room very minimal, modern and tasteful, paint it all white and have that as the big character feature in the room. Get that light fitting inside working as well because it would look even cooler lit from behind, OR have a retractable TV or projector screen come down from inside the cavity behind the mantle/lintel. Then you wouldn't have to look at your ugly TV when you're not watching it.

Went for this too. Dyson just did a die after nearly 6 years of service. Shame they can't be refurbished, most of it is still functional.
That's it. Our gut instinct is to smash it to fuck, but are worried about any smasher's remorse from losing a unique thing. Not through any deference to original features, as it isn't. But then, as people have pointed out, we don't own a coke forge or nearly enough horse brasses to do it justice.
