Why would you ride 650b 2.25 when you could ride 29er if possible.

sorry ed!

Yeah it might be, my comment was more about future proofing it. 37c is okay, but the pressures you need mean it gets bouncy quick and out of shape. It's much easier and more forgiving riding something with more volume. 37c is almost road bike tyre width these days.

Finally an even more boring discussion than gear ratios and wide drop bars.

Isn't the point of 650b that geo doesn't significantly change between "road" wheels and "gravel" wheels?
You swap from a knobbly 29" 2.25" to a 38mm and the bike's going to handle differently. I thought this was a confirmed gravel fact.
Edit: or am I the only one on the thread who can't afford one bike per tyre paradigm

I personally subscribe to the .5 bike per tyre for all my bikes.
-
• #15108
im pretty sure bike geo isn't real and the only thing that matters is how big a tyre your bike can fit
(bigger number = better to ride)
-
• #15109
650 x 47 clearance is equiv to the obsolete "road bike" tyre size of 700 x 28, both are too small for modern usage.

• #15110
"700x35 can cut through anything"
yeah it can, traffic, the bike lane, the odd dogg in the way, perfect for your road bike

Time to sell everything again!

God damnit....
Tbh I’ve been doing regents laps on the Open with 2.25 Mezcals & the odd 70km Essex road jaunt and the speeds are only marginally slower than on the road bike.
WAY more fun and incomparably comfier.
Also - at 59mm they'll literally go through anything - and everything

At 35kph+ they also sound like you’re being pursued by that helicopter with the circular saws on it from Goldeneye

• #15114
*the world is not enough...
(Goldeneye was so much cooler)

incomparably comfier
Finally you bought a bike that fits you!

I suppose it could be a 'race' bike
-
• #15119
That was in The World Is Not Enough, not Goldeneye.

• #15120
a 'race' bike
it has a SID

Wrong. Gravel riding is all about having more than the other guy. Wider bars, more bags, more bottle mounts, bigger tires, dynamos, dropper posts, bigger range of gears, 4 pot calipers.
The equivalent of massive 4x4 mom wagons to do the school run, many of these will be limited to 40 mile runs in the odd weekend and some commutes. -
• #15122
it has a SID
So do you
Let's hope there's some XC races for you in 2021!
-
• #15123
i think we agree as long as the number is bigger*, the bike is objectively better to ride,
*this applies to everything except miles ridden

Time to order those Lennard Zinn 220mm cranks

Maybe that’s why she left...
I have an irrational hatred of those bottles.
