The hotel I stayed in when I was in Beijing in December had no heating. My employers were paying so it wasn’t like I was on a budget. Had to use all the bedding to keep vaguely warm at night.
Ooof that's not cool (in fact, it's pretty damn cold), Beijing heating is normally excellent - when I've been there in winter I've had to open the window open to stop from overheating.
The wind was blowing from the north too, which was good in some respects as the pollution was blown south and you could see the mountains to the north. But bad as it was below freezing. The hotel was across the road from the office though so didn’t really need to venture outside too often.
