• Could I see the dropouts in the light please? Would like to gauge extent of corrosion. Also a shot inside the bottom bracket shell, thanks.

Lastly, the Basso frames have the size stamped under the BB .. does this?

  • Hi there, sorry for the slow reply - please find an album with the pictures you asked for.

As you can see the paint is pretty scuffed up and chipped around the dropouts but thankfully there's no rust, and I've been riding it in this condition since I first got it years ago... Please also see the bottom bracket shell threads, and the underside of the bottom bracket, which is stamped with the size (54 - good knowledge!) and serial number. On the latter, I just remembered that Basso have a 'birth certificate' service here where they'll verify frames older than 10 years for EUR 20. I was a student at the time so somehow didn't think it was worth the money - I'd be happy to split the cost with any potential buyer though, to satisfy my own curiosity as well as yours! I'm not sure how long it will take with everything going on, though, so won't hinge the sale on the result.

The original seller I bought it from made no mention of Basso, but I could tell the quality from the pictures. It then took me a couple of hours of research on German+English forums and various catalogue scans and archives before I made the connections (at which point I noticed the 'Basso' chainstay protector that must have originally come with it!) I'd be more than happy to re-dig through links and send them over if anyone wants verify its probable Basso heritage for themselves :-)
