What are you doing? Want to take the odd photo whilst out riding? Then phone in jersey pocket or GoPro on bike. Riding somewhere specifically to take photos? Then whatever you want to carry in a suitable bag.
A phone is really the perfect tool to take photos whilst out riding, I think you've just been using shit ones.

I use a Ricoh GR a lot for cycling - I’ve owned one of the range pretty much consistently since the first GRD came out and they fit perfectly in a little lowepro case I stash somewhere on the bike or if I’m wearing touring shorts, on my belt. The ergonomics are perfect for one-handed shooting, all but one of the buttons are accessible with one hand, and they’re intuitive enough that I don’t have to think too much while riding. The full-press snap (it skips autofocus and shoots at a fixed focal length if you press the shutter button sharply) works well when you’re just trying to grab something quickly on the move. My only gripe is that it isn’t waterproof (or dust proof, although I haven’t had a problem with that specifically).
This all makes a lot of sense to me.
A camera like that, which makes one-handed operation so easy, is what I would be using if I wanted to take pictures while riding.
That's even better than an iPhone (especially the newer, bigger ones - which have the bestest quality but are also awkward to handle with one hand). -

Yeah, that's the point. But I'm also not going to spend money on a new phone I don't want just to get a better camera when I could get, a better camera. Point and shoot with a big sensor and better lens is going to get better results than my phone and it saves the phone battery for phoney things.

That really reminds me of the boy with a camera for a face.
Enjoyed that.

The OG versions of RX100s are ~£200 which is much more conducive to carting around on a bike price. But they're internal battery only right so if the battery is fuxxored, there's no swapping it out for a new one. Do any of the big sensor compact Sonys have swappable batteries?
-
• #2758
Are they? Internal battery that is. I’ve got a M4 and pretty sure when looking at the range they all had swappable batteries.
Not sure if this matters but M1 doesn’t have Wi-Fi so no transferring to your phone wirelessly.

Pretty sure I’ve got a Mk1 and it does have a removable battery. Has lasted well until I left it in a damp shed over the winter.

Does anyone have any experiences with the Fujifilm repair service? I'm thinking of sending in my X-Pro2 with a list of errors to repair.
I called the service center in Germany but they are estimating around 700-800€ in the absolute worst case. Weird thing is that the camera will be sent to the UK where it'll be checked and repaired.
I checked the Fujifilm UK website which states £180.00 for repairing X-Pro2, no word on additional fees if more work has to be done. So I'm thinking to send it to a friend in London and he sends it to Fujifilm UK to save quite a bit of moneyz. -

But they're internal battery only right so if the battery is fuxxored
Are you talking about the main battery pack or the internal battery that maintains time/date when you pull the pack out?

RX100
I was talking about the main battery. The review I read said that it was USB charging and this would be annoying if you needed to extend battery life with a second battery or words to that effect.
EDIT:
It was this, maybe I got the wrong end of the stick?https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx100/15
"USB-only charging makes it awkward to use a spare battery" -
• #2763
Yeah, I did, because it clearly shows a removable battery
When it said USB-only charging, I assume it meant the battery was internal, non-removable.
I don't get it, if you have a removable battery, how can this not be charged externally?
"The RX100 comes with a USB fast-charger. This offers a 1.5A current, rather than the 0.5A offered by standard USB ports, so is quicker to charge the camera than your computer will be.
This arrangement does make it more awkward to charge a second battery, since you can only charge the battery when it's in the camera."
Ok, so unlike Canon, Sony don't do external chargers I guess. It's not that it's a fixed internal battery.
Looks like I can buy an old RX100. RX100 II going for ~£320

Yeah, I misunderstood a line in the article and thought it meant internal battery. Sony is back in the game :)

I used them, camera came back perfect and they did the work for free. Paperwork to send to the UK might be a pain from 1st Jan.
-
• #2766
I assume your camera was still under warranty? Because mine is not anymore so I don't expect a free repair
-
• #2767
No, it wasn’t. They quoted me for the work, I said go ahead, they did it FoC.
-
• #2768
That's quite a service. What did you have repaired?
The mainboard of my camera most definitely has to be replaced and maybe the the whole top unit since they don't replace single buttons or switches. -
• #2769
if you're patient you can find a deal - I got a Rx100 mk3 for £200 - that said I hated sony's awful colours and the autofocus was frustrating at points. Picked up a G5x mk1 instead, which has been great, no better autofocus but colours are much better and touch/flip screen at small size expense. Thinking about picking up a XF10 when somewhere has them back in stock
-
• #2770
New or used? This was new price, although I've seen some slightly cheaper display models. They're not cheap enough for ex-display though. What's up with the colours? Like Sony TVs and saturated to fuckery?
XF10 - full frame compact?

"sony's awful colours"
Got a comparison? Just curious.

Sony Alpha ILCE-6000L "ex-demo but perfect" for under £400?
-
• #2773
Was ex display via eBay- was tempted to get a grey import rx100V but figured I’d try the cheaper option before committing.
Awful colours was an exaggeration-I just found that occasionally the colour balance would be off or the white balance would be off and if the jpgs were transferred thru the app to the phone they needed a fair bit of work to look ok. That said I just had a look thru old RX100 photos and they’re all quite ok so maybe I’ve thought it up to be a bigger problem than it was?
This was on a RX100iii and I have a A7ii which performs much better so perhaps it was just old sensor / chip / colour science etc. I think if you went with a newer one - perhaps a 5 or 5A/va then it blow most things out the waterXf10 / the older model it replaced X70- APSC sensor 28mm fixed lens, basically a dumbed down X100 (no viewfinder, fixed screen) seems a good candidate and should be fairly comparable in size to a RX100

Cheers. I just grabbed an A6000 with 16-50 mm for ~£350
Benefits of jumping on ebay pre-coffee...
Anyone got a deal on the 20mm pancake lens before I really wake up?
Oh, actually a case or maybe shoulder strap is probably more important. I want it on me rather than the bike, otherwise I think the gnarmac will vibrate it to pieces.
https://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Dashpoint-Camera-Attachment-Mirrorless/dp/B008OQUZEI Apparently this will just fit.
