  • It was a sad day when my girlfriend finally made me get rid of my black leather, electric reclining sofas from DFS.

  • White pleather, pls.

  • I'm assuming it's a through lounge. If so I'd be tempted to block the small door so you can get a bigger sofa along that wall and then a loveseat in the bay.

  • Our front room plans have a small second TV in an equivalent position.

We only have on BBR, where your entrance is. We're bulding box seats into the bay.

  • Is the fireplace going to be used? If not could mount an arm in there and put tv on that.
Otherwise use other room as tv/games room. Depends how much bigger/smaller it is.

  • I thought that...but then it all feels a bit pointless given the TV will be so far away and comparatively small, i.e. 40" max

Tempted by something more trad, hard sell to the family though. THIS ROOM IS FOR QUIET REFLECTION NOT CBBIES YOU ANIMALS

  • You'll get neckache on the long mountain stages on next year's Tour like that.

I'd go for what you said with the 2.5 seater, then maybe with a nice armchair in the bay for quiet reflection where you can't see the TV?

Or a nice storage bench with cushions on to throw child rubbish in.

  • Yeah. Luckily there's what would have been the dining room the other side of the entrance so looking at the possibility of having that more multi-use / TV centric.

  • Why even have a TV in that room then if you have one in the other?!

  • I suspect it's a similar size room/layout to mine and a 40" TV is perfectly watchable from there. Maybe not for movies/games but I'd set the other room up for that.

If you're going to set it up so half the seats don't see the TV then just don't bother with the TV.

  • Yep definitely an argument to say you don't need it.

It is the only spot that has a direct connection to the aerial / Cable or whatever though. Would need to look in to a way of getting a signal through to the 'main' TV wirelessly.

  • Broadcast television lol. Forgot you were old.

  • The second, less accessible but UHF wired TV is for pure nostalgia purposes; an escape to a simpler time for frazzled parents.

  • To escape from Doc McStuffins

    CRT or GTFO

  • Roofers are putting up the scaffold tomorrow, talk about quick.

  • Ha, fair point. Makes me think of my mums good living room that was never used 😂

  • Awesome - and no risk of proper refurbing - just need to replace some handrail brackets which seem to be hard to find in the right size...

  • Wow that’s super quick! we are local to you and for windows looked at premier on spa hill, have you or are you going with Everest?

  • We looked at premier and there wasn't much in it price/spec wise so went with the bigger firm.

  • Still in two minds (or three, or four) about what to do with Big Fuck Of Fireplaceâ„¢

On one hand, it's a big interesting place that a lot of people seem to like (or they're just being kind). On the other, it takes up a fuck load of space. Those two plinths are like having a couple of fridges in the room.

The "fire" is a long ago disconnected gas fire, and we won't be running any kind of live fire in there. Ms_com wants a stove but I can't bring myself to contribute to local and internal pollution more than we already do. We might end up with some kind of electric stove type thing if we just want something pretty/distracting and warm.

The main part of the breast has actually been built out. If you look up, you can see what looks like the original breast face, with plaster over the brick, adding to the space stealing. But then, there's still a ton of space even with it in.

It kind of feels like a country pub feature, which probably isn't a bad thing, but then I don't always want to feel like I'm sitting in a country pub.

Extreme option would be to smash out the plinths, take the breast back to original face and reinstate some kind of more traditional fireplace with a nicer mantle.

Roof and window works mean it is not priority and we'll live with it a while (and probably do nothing).

For scale, that's a 42" telly. I'm 6'2" and the lintel is about nose height for me. I should be a surveyor.
