@StevePeel it's not technically a bidon, but the zojirushi flasks are 100% the very best thermal flask you'll get for coffee or anything
I've had mine for about 5 years and still as good as they day I got it. Fits nicely into some of my cages too, but not all

Right, who is the Aeropress guy/gal on here.

Just got a 6 month subscription from Unorthodox as a birthday present. Anyone tried them before? I think they're in Kinross.

As my kitchen will be non-existent for a month I've decided to go pour over.
Have purchased:
- Hario V60 ceramic
- Fellow Stagg EKG kettle
The kettle is the reason to post in this thread: https://espresso-solutions.co.uk/fellow-stagg-ekg-electric-pouring-kettle-matte-black/
Aside from a minority of reviews mentioning the temperature regulation breaking after some months of use, there's almost universal praise... and it looks pretty too.
The place I got it from was here https://www.roastworks.co.uk/product/fellow-stagg-ekg/ but as I bagged the last I thought it best to link to somewhere that had at least the white one in stock.

Not the reason why you posted but just wondering if you’d considered the Hario V60 double mesh? Was umming and ahhring between that and the ceramic just yday. Went double mesh.

Inverted method, 16-18g filter ground coffee, 90C water up to 240ml, 2:5 min steep, light stir to break crust, two papers pre-rinsed in carrier screwed on, squeeze all air out then flip onto cup and press over 30 secs. That’s roughly what I do.

Pretty much same here, can't remember the dose I use as my aeropress has been in the office since March. I opted for a fine metal mesh as opposed to the paper ones also

TBH nope... I just happened to be in a coffee shop with a ceramic on sale and remembered I'm going to be screwed for a while and need a solution for a month or so and that it would be nice if it was good enough for the long term too.

@StevePeel
I remember you use a Technivorm for home and "i just want the coffee when i do the wake up thank you".Do you go with glass or thermal? Before I go mad.
On the one hand, I don't want the thing just sitting there for ages drawing power (it probably won't...) and on the other I don't want to smash the glass jar at some point (i might). -

Got gifted this at Xmas. Really fantastic. Expensive at £21... but worth it as a treat.

Nice one I’ll check it out 👍

I really appreciate the coffee roasters but the flavour descriptions are getting out of hand

Thermal. It’s great, nothing to break and it only uses power when it’s brewing. It’s hot plates that give filter brewers a bad rep, they stew the coffee.

I reckon I’ve mastered coffee in a flask for bike rides - I use a moka pot, one that takes about 30g of ground coffee, 6 cup maybe? Pour that into a pre heated thermos, then top it up with freshly boiled water from the kettle. That gives just the right filter level brew strength but serving temperature is much higher without over extracting the coffee. Kept my spirits up during a mechanical break down at dawn the other day.

Thanks, I was not too far off today in my first attempts. For a start I used the "aeropress" mark on the Wilfa and that's quite a bit finer than filter ground though. Also isn't 240ml a lot of water for a single dose? For a longer coffee they seem to suggest adding water after making a "shot", I'm wondering if that makes any difference.
@mmccarthy I'll buy a metal filter as soon as I finish the paper ones.

Farmer looks like a dude, love the way it's presented.
I have no idea how the coffee biz works but I'd love to try that and some of these other ones from 'cup of excellence'

Will probs buy a new mokka now as well. Based on below post. -

I have just got one and am using the inverted method. 15g of coffee, 200ml of water, stir, leave for around one minute, stir again, flip and press. I have not been blown away by the coffee it has made. Perhaps too much hype or maybe I need to work on it. I have only used it around four times so far. The coffee just takes a bit too ''clean'' and I think I might go back the humble cafetiere tomorrow.

Think Amazon is possibly the only place to get them. That's the downside. A place called CoffeeAngel in Dublin used to have their own branded ones but that stopped.
I've dropped mine quite a few times and they make an almightly clatter, however they don't seem to break in anyway like some other type thermal flasks might. Still leak proof too.

Try the Aeroprecipe app on android (possibly ios too). It's based on James Hoffman's recipe dice. Recommends different grinds, bloom times, inverted/traditional.
Me inverted, 16-20g, depending on the beans generally. 30-40ml of water to bloom. About 45 seconds after some stirring/agitation. Top up and wait 90 seconds or so and go.

2:5 min steep
What does this bit mean? I know what steep means, just can’t work out minutes.
-
• #19848
Ha. I meant 2.5 mins; I think I initially typed “2:30 min” which doesn’t make sense, and then neglected to correct the colon.

I’ve never tried adding water to a stronger brew, something about it doesn’t seem right. I think most people in speciality do the “slightly updosed from 15ml/250ml” so essentially a straightup filter recipe, for a filter-style brew.
You’ll certainly need a coarser grind for a metal filter, hopefully with minimal fines to go through the larger holes. I only really use the AP once or twice a week so don’t mind using a couple of paper filters each time. -

30-40ml of water to bloom
I’ve never really understood a bloom in an aeropress; I just fill it up and the grounds mostly sit on top kind of like a cupping, as opposed to a V60 where you want the gases and shit to do their thing before a careful pour. Shall I try a bloom?
Anyone heard of or used barista space equipment?
Looking at their new hand grinder and scales specifically. Grinder is in the time more price range but no reviews anywhere really so not sure.
