Wanted: Titanium 31.6 layback seatpost

  • Longshot... looking for a Titanium 31.6 layback seatpost

    Thanks

  • Best of luck, was looking for ages and ended up getting one from Torus.

  • Thanks @onyerbike rate it?

  • I'll be able to say in a week or so, had it sent straight to be bead blasted so whilst it looks the ticket, functionally am yet to find out.

  • Thanks do let me know

  • I have a J&L 31.6 one but its in line. £40 posted if you happen to be interested. Smart looking one.

  • Thanks @mxprez_j but looking for a layback for sure

  • How have you found the J&L? Seems like a decent cheaper option

  • I was put off by someone's opinion in a a review:

"Seatposts are fairly critical components so I would not risk using cheap imports where you probably have no warranty or legal comeback if the snapped post gouges your testicles out. You could die. Bleeding to death in the woods with a ti post stuck in you.

Because i am attached to my balls and intend to keep them physically attached to me I am using a van Nicholas ti post and it seems reliable and rather nice They cost around £125 ish. The flex is great. For me the flex qualities are the reason I use ti, rather than the weight saving."

.... hard images to get out of your head.

  • My review:
" Subjective: J&L costed £70 plus shipping, to me it's not that cheap for a no brand part I have to say and Taiwanese people make most of the bicycle in the world these days I believe the technology is there.

Objective: 1 year of regular gravel/ cross usage, nothing wrong with it. (I am not a particularly heavy person) "

I am only looking to sell because I changed to a frame with 27.2 clamp, would totally have the same one in that diameter but I just can't justify spending another £70 and wait for a month.

  • If it's all about price point I wonder why the titanium apex 1 planet x bike at £1799 is that popular. Is it a mistrust in imported goods/brand?

Just up for a convo, I still don't trust any Chinese Carbon.

  • Good to know.

Agree about the fact that’s the tech is there and always the thought they could well be made in the same factories as other branded posts

I think it’s to do with - emotionally:
    A. Not feeling like you have someone or some brand to blame if it goes wrong
    B. Feeling like you get what you pay for and there must be a reason it’s £100plus cheaper than branded one

    But intellectually:
    A. What difference does that make. Branded stuff fails all the time
    B. It’s just a bit of paint of a name and that’s how brands make their money

  • I have replaced my layback Lynskey seatpost with an inline Tito one from AliExpress. Took only 2 weeks to arrive.

The quality of the seatpost itself is good with smooth welds and a good finish - I would not be surprised if Tito were subcontractors for other brands.

I chose the length and also no naff engraving.
Even the clamp came with a ti bolt. It's been fitted to my Lynskey Helix and no issues whatsoever in the last 9 months.

All in, I'd recommend the brand.
