  • It looks like I'm probably going to go with the Domke F-5XB. I reckon it's a good size for what she needs and I know she'll prefer the style over the Peak bags (which, lets face it, is reasonably important). Cheers for all the advice!

  • how much fungus is too much fungus?

bought a bessa r3a, and the nokton 40mm 1.4 that came with it was described as having "slight fungus". it's just arrived and looks a bit more than "slight" to me, although it's my first experience with lens fungus

it was a relatively good deal for the body/lens, so can't decide whether or not to run a quick roll through to see if it makes a difference and hope it doesn't get worse, or just send the body/lens back?

i'd also assumed this was more of an issue with vintage lenses, so slightly concerned it was stored in a cave or something

  • Slight, short of the typical caveat emptor eye of the beholder subjective etc etc, is less than that.

Slight would be one or two dots toward the edge. That amount would be dealbreaker for me. Unless the deal was practically free lens, I’d return.

  • does anyone have a copy stand and LED drawing pad that they want to get rid? I want to try scanning film using thee digital camera.

  • Any fungus is a dealbreaker. Don’t buy anything with fungus. Have a word with yourself :-)

  • lens was essentially free at the price i paid, but have just spotted there's also some fungus in the viewfinder, and a fuckload of dust where he's clearly tried to get at it before. time to get my money back

  • i know, i'm an idiot! learnt my lesson now. never again, probably.

  • Anyone used the Millican Bowden messenger bag with insert? Thinking of picking one up, looks a good mix of camera and general use.

  • I haven't used that one... but I have Millican bags and love them. Both a cotton backpack and a lightweight backpack. I use the Dave backpack as my camera bag and love it even though I wish I'd got some kind of insert to protect the body and lenses better (the Dave is not a purpose made camera bag).

  • Is the Peak Design capture clip compatible with any arca swiss plate?

  • Richard Caplan in St James’ is closing. They always seemed ‘reasonably’ priced for Leica, and was happy with the service I got when I bought my M5 from there.

  • I'm looking to buy a compact camera to use on chilled rides/tours instead of my phone camera which I'm always disappointed with.

A quick glance and I'm down a rabbit hole of Canon model numbers.

G7 is better than G9, there's I, II and III versions. There's a Richoh with no zoom lens that I presume would be really fast to use and more rugged. There's Olympus Tough TG-6 which is actually 'rugged'.

I used to own a Powershot G3 and I still have a collection of Canon DSLRs so I'm quite fond on Canon stuff in general and would lean that way over most other things unless there was a compelling argument to go another way. I hate Nikon.

What would you buy if you were me, looking for better point and shoot results?

  • get a better phone(camera)?

  • What would you buy if you were me, looking for better point and shoot results?

If you are already familiar with (and like) Canon then I'd get one of the Powershots.
Just figure out how much you're willing to spend, how small you want the camera to be, and what features are important to you (finder or display-only, articulating screen on back or not, wifi..) and pick a model that has what you want, don't overthink it too much.

  • The Ricoh GRs are not really rugged. In fact they suffer from dust getting pulling into the lens mechanism a bit.

  • I don’t think many camera will survive being thrown off the bike at 30kmph very often, but having it weather resistant is very useful.

I’ve had lens elements fog up on cameras from being in humid jersey pockets.

Less of an issue in a bar bag or on a sling strap.

Could also look at the Canon M series?

Not worth getting a small sensor compact these days as it’s not any better than a phone camera these days.

  • If you plan on taking selfies you'll need a fisheye lens.

  • No. "I hate Nikon."

    Read the brief, noob.

  • Ok, they're dead to me.

  • Are they going to be available after Brexit or have those thieving EU lot taken them all?

  • Anglo-Australian political satire. Top notch.

  • don't overthink it too much

You've never seen me buy tech items have you? ;)

  • I think M are too big. It could go in a top tube bag or perhaps I'd just ziplock it or wedge my wallet in between so it's less sweat drenched. Though this is another reason to consider water-proof options. Does Canon do any 'tough' stuff?
