What do you think the running equivalent of the Rapha Festive 500 would be?
I was thinking maybe 125km, but that sounds a bit far

Kinda wish that some cool running company would do an equivalent. Some bugger apart from myself needs to appreciate how far I've run between xmas and new year!
No idea how far it should be though.125km sounds reasonable

How many days is it?
-
• #24130
Time might be a better gauge?
It’ll take about 22 hours based on 22kmph -
• #24131
8 days

Why am I getting involved in this... I haven't finished the last stupid challenge yet and it's not a holiday here...
125km sounds good to me though.

That's 9.625 miles a day on average. Hmmm. I might give it a go, although I'm probably more likely to eat that many mince pies a day instead

22 hours of running!! Ooof

There is this: https://www.strava.com/clubs/12-days-of-christmas-2020-802129
If I do it in the spirit that I normal do the Festive 500 then I should do about two 5k's worth and then decide a mince pie is nicer. -

Might as well call it ten miles a day.
I'll give it a shot.
-
• #24137
Just done my first 4.3 miles
-
• #24138
Is today the first day? I'm down about 5 miles if it is.
-
• #24139
Ooh, any more than 67 miles in 7 days will make December my biggest month of the year. In!

Have moved to Brighton, starting to explore the downs a bit so fairly up and down, not been too muddy so far but after something with a bit more grip than i have currently
-
• #24141
11.3 so far. I'm drinking now (been up since 4.30) but I may yet pop out again later.
Running is feeling very hard work at the moment

I've been using this one for awhile, still can't touch my toes but defo helps with sore muscles - https://youtu.be/NWLFUMf_ewQ

Where have you been going? I’m in Brighton, one of my resolutions is to do more trail running as there’s so much about
-
• #24144
I'm just outside of Brighton too so much good trail running. I expect to be spending a lot more time on the downs in the coming weeks during lockdown. Just got some inov8 G260s for the gloop as I've been finding the limits of my pegasus trails recently

Lovely! I’ve mainly been running in stanmer which is really hilly but, I guess, that’s all of the downs! Any good routes you’d recommend?
-
• #24146
Everything inbetween Falmer/woodingdean from the top going east towards telscombe village or southease is good. Long out and backs or big loops possible hard to get lost and great views. Hard work if its windy though
-
• #24147
Nice, will give those a go!
-
• #24148
Yeah, keen to get to know the downs more. Have been going out near woodingdean too.

Got some new running shoes for Christmas (Nike Zoom Tempo Next%), went for a run today - my first sort of progression run (10 min easy, 10 min hard, 10 min easy, 10 min hard) since giving up fast running when I got injured.
Wow. I didn't realise shoes could make such a difference. In 8k I beat nearly every PB except my 5k which was only 15 second off. The weeks of physio work to strengthen my calves, glutes and weak left leg has no doubt helped too...
Anyway, running newb revelation complete. Just thought I'd share as it's brightened up my Boxing Day and made me much more excited about 2021!

Can you share your physic exercises? This sounds like all the areas I'd like to strengthen to get over niggling shin splints issues....
Grass as in flat park grass? If so (and not rough, muddy, undulating trail surfaces) then a road shoe may suffice. I had a pair of saucony freedoms that were "ok" on the road but were perfect for regents park and hampstead heath "off road" tracks. Minimal drop and wide meant they were stable, and the cushioning was enough to absorb pebbles and the like. They'd have no traction in actual mud, and there's no rock plate or the like, but on grass and sandy trails none of that is actually needed
Its all a compromise, but I found them a better compromise than a trail shoe on the road.
That all said, if you do want a cushioned trail shoe, then the peregrine is worth a look
