  • His suggestion of only administering one dose has pretty much been dismissed by the people at imperial

  • I thought he was saying don't hold back the second doses but use them all for first doses while the other batches are being made, then use those for second doses?

  • So what happened around December 2nd that has accelerated Covid in Netherlands and Sweden?
Obviously the UK came out of the second lockdown.

  • Hard to make an accurate guess but things I've seen being blamed in NL are: Sinterklaas, which is essentially the Netherlands' Christmas day (December 5th), and Black Friday (in store sales).

And anecdotally, any time a neighbouring country goes into lockdown, you usually get an influx of tourists from that country. Still seeing German and French tourists around now. Lots of people still working in offices too.

  • We had national blackface day, also known as Sinterklaas, december fifth. It's basically Christmas, family gettogethers with gifts and food.

  • I’m not sure he was, but if he was, I think that potentially jeopardises getting the second dose within the timeframe for the level of effectiveness demonstrated by the trials. At least while supplies are limited

  • It's a gamble.
Either: we can definitely vaccinate a number of people, or we can gamble on vaccinating twice that number if we can get more vaccine made, supplied, distributed and administered at just the right time. If anything goes wrong, the twice number vaccine is ineffective/less effective. I can understand sticking with the option in hand.

  • @Jonny69 @zazkar @greenhell et al

I have put this in the C-19 forum not in classifieds, hope @Velocio doesn’t mind. I want the money to support a charity that has helped me, and does loads for the local community through everything. Seems better to have in this forum not regular offtopic misc sellz.

  • You need to be able to have the second dose available for those who've had the first dose. Otherwise the effectiveness is diminished.

More simply: do you trust this shower of shit to actually remember who's needs one and who needs two.

  • Also: stkrs plz

  • What are people doing?
Going out, masks not being worn properly/enough, droplet spread, air conditioning, hand hygiene.

    I guess.

  • Yes, lots of people thinking that wearing a mask and only going to the shops every couple of days means they'll magically stay clear of it.

It doesn't matter if you do the right thing 99% of the time, it could be that single time when you waited until you'd made yourself a cup of tea before you remembered to wash your hands after being out to the shops.

  • I've just returned from the supermarket. Lady shopping with her mask on her chin.

  • SIL who tested positive on Friday was the final member of the English department at her school of nine teachers who all caught the virus.

IAN a public health official but its the kids.

  • Is it cheaper, easier and more within our control to bet on the appearance of more vaccine in a timely fashion or controlling the virus? I reckon I'd back Tony's plan before Hancock's

  • my current death avoidance regimen includes:

    • Shopping locally and steering clear of supermarkets
    • Making sure i'm as near as first in queue as can be come opening time
    • surgical gloves
    • n95 mask
    • slathering hands with disinfectant jizz the second i get back in the motor and before removing mask and gloves
    • squirting everyfuckingthing with a diluted bleach solution and then wiping down with an antibac wipe before putting away

bet i'll catch this fucking thing of a shitty envelope or a Dominos flyer that some cunt shoves in the letterbox.

  • death avoidance regimen

    It's just procrastination

  • The study was not designed to assess the efficacy of a single-dose regimen. Nevertheless, in the interval between the first and second doses, the observed vaccine efficacy against Covid-19 was 52%, and in the first 7 days after dose 2, it was 91%, reaching full efficacy against disease with onset at least 7 days after dose 2.

I've only skimmed it, because it's present wrapping time, but that to me says one dose is effective half the time. A second dose takes it up to 91%.

  • Schools being open combined with people not realising that you never just meet one person when it comes to viruses...you also "meet" their close contacts.

We are holed up and so is the ex, son had a case in his year just not in his class. But easily contracted that way and if we'd all meet people..

My brother may have caught it helping an uncle out, him and his partner are both keyworkers and both tested positive then told him.

My brother is living alone and careful in shops, just goes out to do his evening education classes where everyone is kept 2 meters apart etc.

But there you go...just one afternoon of helping someone. He's waiting for his test.

Edit that's Netherlands which has/probably by now had more relaxed rules on meeting people indoors.

  • It's easy to say "yeah it's kids!", I think there's more to play here. If it is kids, which ones? What are their parents doing ? Etc and so on.
It's also, bubbles in schools don't work. You can see it when school is over. The children all mix again with their siblings and oh look, when their parents chat, new kids from different year bubbles and different schools.

With you on shoving 30 little germ bags in together.

Also talking from a parent toprimary age kids perspective.

  • Anyone else had a one day isolation notification, or is this another glitch?

  • Just means your exposure was 9+ days ago and now they’ve tested positive. I.e you’d be showing symptoms by now...

  • My partner’s dad had a positive test last week - BAME, 70s, underlying health conditions, won’t go to hospital because his best friend went in and didn’t come out. Lives alone in Camberwell, breathing heavily and not eating, so she takes some soup round. Knocks on the door, leaves it in his porch, stands back and waits to make sure he comes to get it... He comes to the door breathing heavily and has had an accident. What do you do in such a situation? There are no fucking rules for this game.

She fortunately has two visors with her from work so puts them both on, goes in, helps him to change, cleans up and makes sure he eats. No gloves, so washes hands, leaves and sanitises. Goes home, undresses in the hall, clothes into the washing machine, shower, sanitises visors... and breathe.

She only had a test five days ago (negative) because she’s a teacher and had a headache and cough. Chances of getting another one on Xmas eve?

Btw she’s a fucking trooper and awesome

  • She was fairly explicit about the teens in her school not wearing masks or attempting distancing at all and the staff dropping like flies.

  • The teenagers I speak to say they are in a bubble at school and therefore there is no need to wear masks or keep their distance from the rest of their year. They can't spread out in class, the canteen, etc even if they wanted to.

13 student and 5 staff positive tests in my daughters school last term.
