I think one of the difficulties with COVID enforcement has been figuring out the correct/acceptable levels of punishment for infractions. I think jail time or heavy fines are merited for cynically flaunting the rules, as there are extremely few good reasons not to cooperate, and untold damage could result from it (deaths, hospitalisations, economic harm, further lockdown...).
But then there’s fuckloads of people who think that’s an overreaction. I suspect many overlap with the imbeciles who think drink drivers also deserve a slap on the wrist, even when they’ve killed someone.
All that to say I doubt anything will be done to people who come back.
I hope that everyone who did make the escape while infected with covid, enjoy a nice isolation with their families. I hope they don't go shopping, mix with other households and otherwise take the piss.
At the very least, get popped at Waterloo/St Pancras on their return for unnecessarily returning to a tier 4 area...
