Do Zwift allow estimated power in races?!
-
• #558
Yes, but not ‘authenticated’ by zwiftpower, which you sign up to in order to verify your data.
-
• #559
What's the etiquette for calling out people whose race results and power seem to be a little suspect?
You mean everyone on Zwift? Best get used to it or cancel your account.

Has anyone experienced spinning out on Zwift? On every workout I've done on it in the last week or so I'm really struggling to do the interval as I'm spinning out when trying to do the lower watt ones. It's like the resistance is not working on my turbo (kickr). This is all in ERG mode and I'm finding I'm having to put in the hardest gear on most of the intervals and I don't think there should be any need to shift when in ERG?
Should say looks like I've got the latest version of zwift, kickr etc. Should also mention that I had a couple of dropouts recently with the Kickr not pairing as the controllable on my Mac so started using the Zwift companion app to pair trainer and power meter over my phones Bluetooth and it doesn't look like the connection was lost when using it last night.
Keen to hear if anyone has had anything similar.

It sounds like the ‘controllable’ trainer may be paired to another device. I had this when I switched between an iPad and iPhone. The trainer was waiting for data from one but I was using the other. Switch off the trainer and make sure the apps are closed to clear.
On other occasions I’ve also thought I was in ERG mode but was in incline mode for workouts. I always have the companion app running now to check the mode. -

I've had a few issues similar to this (Tacx Flux). ERG mode didn't work reliably. I went through Tacx (Garmin) customer service, Zwift Customer service, bought a CABLE to try and improve the connection... No conclusive answers, but Bluetooth stability seems to be the key. I had most problems when I connected my phone to a wireless speaker or headphones in the same room. Seems to be mostly stable now with wired audio.

Presume it makes no difference if Bluetooth is switched on/off on the Mac? From what I can see I was definitely in ERG mode.
-
• #565
Yeah I use wireless headphones too actually. The only issue I can see with that is that I need Bluetooth on the phone to use the companion app to pair with power meter & turbo...

have you tried analysing the log file in taterlizer? will show you the bluetooth signal strength i think through the workout

This ?https://taterlizer.com/
Do you need to change the file type or something?

you need to save the log.file then upload into there

Strange issue today. Did a race, all fine, then about 10mins from the end I noticed Zwift starting reading my power meter about 30-40watts lower than my Wahoo. I'm using a Suunto USB to read ANT+ from my SRM, and thought perhaps it has momentarily connected to the trainers Bluetooth but it wasn't. Finished the race, exit to another world to cool down and everything's reading fine again - Zwift and Wahoo reading the same. What might have caused that?

It's a conspiracy, zwift want people with larger instagram followers than you to win races so they reduce your power for the sprint

Q: Why is my SRM power reading inaccurate?
A: If you find your SRM is showing inaccurate power data—either higher or lower than expected watts—simply stop pedaling for 15-20 secs. When you start pedaling again, your power readings should be back to normal. If you're still having issues with your SRM, contact our Community Support team—we are here to help! The SRM will send a calibration packet to Zwift after you stop pedaling.

“...simply stop pedaling for 15-20 “ - goodbye race.

That probably explains it. I had the audacity to stop pedalling and tuck down a hill.

Ok. Complete beginner, please be gentle. don't know what I need kit wise.
- Some sort of trainer to hook my bike into?
- Does it need to be a proper road bike?
- One that I have to take my back wheel out? Or is it better to get and put a bike on it full time?
- Is zwift all just about racing? I'm wanting to up distances ridden daily, so a couple hours on the bike short break them back on again type of thing. Does it matter for that type of thing? Kind of competing against yourself rather than others.

- Yes, preferably a smart trainer to take advantage of gradients in the game and preset power from workouts. But you can get away with a 'dumb' trainer and a speed sensor if you just want to make riding indoors slightly less dull.
- No, any bike that fits your trainer is fine. A 'wheel-on' trainer and a MTB tyre will be incredibly noisy though.
- One bike that you take the wheel out is fine.
- No, most people on there are doing group rides, workouts or just rolling around. I use it mainly for getting an hour in before work.
