  • The fork from John Fitzgerald arrived today and boy am I happy with it. Exactly as I had hoped.

It's not clear in the pictures, but it uses this fork crown:

As it was powder coated (with a satin clear coat), the heart is not visible. I will probably get some white enamel paint (thanks for the reccomendation @spotter ) and paint the hearts and hope I don't mess it up, as I think the hearts are a really nice touch on that crown.

The Enve that is being replaced has an A-C of 367mm and a 50mm rake. This new fork has a 370mm A-C and 50mm rake. I did the measurements and it changes my HTA from 71 degrees to something like 70.8 degrees, so is totally negligible.

Not that it was designed for it, but the rear of the Seven can clear a 30c tyre however the Enve couldn't. As I was having the fork made, I wanted the flexibility to run a 30 up front, too, just in case I want to ride any hard packed gravel with a bit more cush.

It won't be fitted until next week but in the mean time, here are some photos of the fork itself.

  • Nice!

I would recommend sanding down the dropouts and the brake caliper attachment to avoid the paint to crack upon wheel entry / caliper installation. Steerer tube looks massive!

  • Nice. Looks like a fork.

  • Cool, thanks for the tip.

    Wanna bet?

  • Assuming both the dropouts and the crown are stainless that is!

Holy ef, I clearly wasn’t wrong!

  • I would recommend sanding down the dropouts and the brake caliper attachment to avoid the paint to crack upon wheel entry / caliper installation.

I have never ever had this issue with powder coat, it's not a paint per sé more a plastic/polymer coat so it's not nearly as brittle as paint, hence why it's so tough and used for industrial applications.

@JB I found a photo to show when I (actually @pooface ) overpainted my (previously powdercoated) crown with enamel paint.

  • Oh. I remember that bike well. Neato. Will update with photos.

  • Bike looks a bit awkward with the Zonda’s after the steel fork install but I think I’ve sourced some 28h White Industries x A23s for a good price, so they should look a bit better.

Also need to move back to a Sim Works. This Nitto is nice but it doesn’t work on here for me.

Very, very happy with the fork. Everything I wanted from it, ride quality wise. Will happily take the weight penalty. So, so, so much nicer to ride than the Enve.

  • Looks a bit weird. Will need to get used to it.

  • I think it looks good! (Although, not meaning to be a dick but that photo makes it look like the forks are bent backward - the blades don’t follow the line of the steerer... is that right?)

  • It’s the comfort angle.

  • definitely been crashed, I'll take it off you hands for cheap

  • They do in person. Think it’s just the lighting/angle of photo.

It’s definitely grown on me already. I think going back to a Sim Works stem and getting rid of the Zonda’s (as great as they are) will make everything look a bit more dialled.

Just looks like there’s a lot going on now. 28h 3x wheels should calm it all down, I reckon.

  • My wife would kill me if I sold this after how much time I spent talking about it during the build process and pretty much ever since 😂

  • Needs to convert head tube to 1”

    New biek time...

Or just buy an old bike

  • Maybe the fork would look better with Shimano. Jk hope it rides well!

  • On the wait list for a Kirk. Probably will spec a 1” head tube on that.

  • Rod brakes too?

  • common JB, bike pics always at 2x, the lens distortion !

  • Yeah, until I live in the U.K. again, if I live in the U.K. again, I think I’m done with discs.

Also kirk’s have gotta have rim brakes.

  • Disc brakes are dead?

  • I heard it through the grapevine. But I think they might be 😉

  • Surely the ? should be a !
    And yes, they are.
@JB forks look great, even with those wheels.

  • those zayante carbon cranks ? tempted to get some of these myself...

  • Yes. Can’t recommend them for 12sp campag though. For 11sp Shimano and therefore Campag they were nice.

With that said, they’ve been creaking since I’ve had them. I don’t have the tool to remove the BB to reinstall it but I’ve removed the cranks, taken them apart and reassembled everything and it still creaks. I will be replacing them with Campag cranks at some point.
