My understanding was the Medway towns and north Kent areas affected initially had one of the lowest levels of adherence to the lockdown rules last time round which is what was initially blamed for the increase in cases there

I was also thinking a lot of people at the time were blaming non-compliance / risky behaviour for the rates of infection in Kent... maybe not much truth in that.

I feel like people were looking for an explanation to the rates of infection and blaming it on behaviour since they didn't know about this more contagious strain.

Could also be that a 4 week lockdown with schools still open wasn’t enough. The virus had already ripped through the schools and unis in the north by then.

news mentioned something about the more contagious strain also being transmitted amongst 'younger population' more - didn't catch the detail - is this young like primary school age, or younger adults?

I guess older kids if they plan on testing all secondary school pupils?

Think it means we’ll spend Christmas Day by ourselves (let the wife’s parents spend it with my brother in law and his wife) but that means we can continue to see them on other days which will be a relief.

Didn't work enough in Northern Ireland. Rates went down but not as much as in March.

Hard call to make though, not everyone can WFH/has easy family childcare access and help with homework.

Sort a plan to minimise risk and see 1 person (sister) outside existing bubble at Christmas and it gets cancelled.

My sister is a nurse and gets tested twice a week, she was planning on doing a test before coming and bring a spare for me to use at a later date but I could also use it for her visit. Any risk at all in this, should I ignore rules? What would others do? am gutted for my sister more than anything she's had one hell of a year, working in a covid ICU and then vaccine research trials.
