On BBC from her
“ The prime minister is expected to announce a tightening of Covid restrictions and a tier four for London and the South East as well as several other counties, cabinet sources have told the BBC.
There is also expected to be a tightening of the plans to relax the rules around households gathering during the Christmas period.
The cabinet was also briefed on the risks from the new variant of the disease by the government’s top medics at lunchtime.”

Very. Very good.

😂
Even the best spoof of journalism couldn’t produce a more ineffective sentence. -

Other county being greater Manchester to have a dig at Burnham no doubt.

Ahhh fuck. We took the kids out of school a week early and will have 'isolated' for two weeks ahead of a trip back to the olds. Been fearing the mass lockdown as everyone else seems to be cracking on as close to normal as possible. Just driven through Kingston after a walk in the woods and it was heaving, so not surprised. Also hadn't realised hair salons were still open!? Tier three is jokes and tier 4 sounds like what it should be.
Incompetent twats in government and a population that appears to have given up having even a passing thought of trying to 'protect the nhs' means we're doomed till April at the earliest I'd say.
Happy Christmas all.

Was hoping to be able to drive up to Suffolk to wave at my parents and drive back tomorrow. Its going to be their first Christmas without family since 1967.
My Mum's Alzheimers is progressing steadily all the while we can't spend time with her. Our story must mirror the situation for tens of thousands.
How fucking sad.

Is there any clear evidence that this new strain spreads more easily?
-
• #18189
I know this shouldn't be about being angry about others. All people are trying to do is live their lives and pay their bills.
Its just that when you've been isolating yourself pretty much for months just to be able to grab fleeting moments with your rapidly deteriorating Mum and that is taken away, its hard not to get angry at the situation.

Apparently the UK has notified the WHO that it has determined that it is spread more easily. I haven't seen what the evidence is but I assume you need evidence to consider notifying the WHO...

Whitty seems to have confirmed that something is odd about how this strain has taken hold in the South East / London. It's pretty dominant here already apparently and is the only way they can explain these areas seemingly coming out of the national lockdown worse than they went in, unlike the rest of the country. I'm sure we will hear more in half an hour.
Imagine the government will try and hang the U turn on this mutation "no on could have predicted". Will be interesting to see how far valance and whitty go along with that commentary.

Aim your ire at this shitshow of a government, who have totally mismanaged the pandemic response for the past 9 months.
I should add that I’m genuinely sorry about your personal situation. Dementia is horrible and I completely get why you are angry.

I haven’t tried yet, better get it going...

Thanks for your kind words mate. And you are spot on about which direction my anger should be directed.
This government, regardless of my own political views, is simply recklessly inept and they are robbing people of time with their most treasured loved ones. Even without this mutation we all saw something like this so close to Christmas happening a mile off.

I believe a YouGov poll showed the majority of the British public (that took the poll) actually wanted tighter restrictions at Christmas not fewer.
I don’t know who the Tories are making their decisions for but it certainly isn’t us.
I’m so sorry to hear about your situation.
I’m not seeing my family this year for Christmas, it was my birthday in November, I didn’t see them then and my mums birthday was earlier this week and I didn’t get to see them then either. So frustrating when so many of us know the sacrifices we’ve made to try and help and it appears thrown back in our face.
I don’t care about Christmas but I know in your situation, I’d be going to see my mum, you only get so many chances. -

My SIL who is a teacher in SE13 tested positive yesterday and as the linchpin of a complex family gift exchanging arrangement (her husband own a courier firm) shit just complicated.
Work colleagues from Kent have been mystified why the you were getting hit so hard last few weeks but I guess we know now

Just in case you weren’t aware of this:
Exemptions from gatherings limits in all tiers
-to see someone who is terminally ill or at the end of life

There doing it for the likes of Sir Desmond Angus Swayne and julia hartley brewer. They need to placate them on COVID-19 as there about to be sold down the river on brexit.
Also there’s a strong correlation between brexit voters and anti maskers which is a key Tory demographic which in all likelihood isn’t reflected in a You Gov poll.

And of course the spineless cunt can't even start a fucking press conference on time.

+1 .
The only thing keeping me positive is that I managed to revive my sourdough starter after 6 months hibernation.
