  • I'd not watched Masterchef before this year, but the skills test really shows how you can make good food in 20 minutes if you know how!

That's why we had rösti for lunch today!

  • overabundance of beetroot? Suggestions.

    Peel then grate.

Fry with onions, and chillies. Add chickpeas and creme fraiche. Season with lemon juice, salt and pepper.

    Serve with rice. It's delicious.

  • Anyone with cast iron got any good seasoning tips

I spent years seasoning and reseasoning cast iron pans. Pleading with family members to not wash them in water etc etc.

Hours of oiling, baking, heating in flames, rubbing in circular motions, etc etc etc. Days of total elapsed time.

Trying to get to that mirror shine point where I would be able to fry an egg with no oil.

    Then I gave up.

    Everyone rejoiced.

  • hmmm interesting, I'm allergic to chickpeas, wonder if there's an alternative.

  • when applying a layer of oil you want to wipe it down so much that you feel you are removing all the oil. really really thin layers

  • I'm allergic to chickpeas, wonder if there's an alternative.

    Butter beans?

  • Cheers. I've had it for about a year, but not used since July as I've been with my other half. Now got it back and just needing to give it some TLC. Have ordered some shortening anyway, but gonna cook some burrito bowl stuff tonight with it and see how it goes....

  • I tried the Lidl Wagyu burger and even though it is bland it tastes pretty clean. There is also none of that stench you sometimes get with supermarket meat when you first put it in the hot pan.

  • Sunday means ice cream day in our gaff, cherry choc chip. Cuisinart continues its sterling service, heartily recommended.

  • does anyone have Anova they want to get rid?

  • Forum approved oven gloves? Separates rather than joined in the middles.

  • I have this style and they have been great.

  • cheap welding gloves would also do the trick

  • We’ve got pretty much the same (from Lakeland), I would take a pic but they really really need a wash.

  • I like the le Creuset double oven gloves, double sided so doesn’t matter which way I grab them when in a hurry.

  • I tend to get something from https://www.safetygloves.co.uk/ Always pretty cheap. I like the ones with fingers but it's tough to find them without stupidly long cuffs

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Currently got the ones Sohi posted, but they are filthy and losing heat resistance.

  • Getting into cooking with the machine now.

    Cutting carrots and onions.

    Does stir.

  • Does anyone know if I there’s anywhere I can buy singles/pairs of durables tumblers? Don’t need a deck of six

  • I think Ikea sells singles.

  • how're you liking it? I've not used one to cook with like that before but they get used at work to do a ton of stuff hot and cold - if you get the knack of timing it you can make incredibly thick creme anglaise that I've yet to replicate by hand

  • Does anybody have a copy of the Hawksmoor recipe for bone marrow gravy?

  • I've always gone with cloths over gloves.
