Not sure of the ethics of blocking youtube ads seeing as its the content creators that get hit most so will probably just suck up the adverts for now.
I do make a point to ensure ads are shown for content creators (either that or support in other ways like Patreon, which I'm sure is a damn sight better for them than the ad revenue)

I'm certain they used to feed video adverts through the same stream as the actual content in the past. This made it impossible to block video ads without blocking the content too.
