  • I have a bunch of old point and shoot 35mm film cameras that im going to list tomorrow. Dont know if they work but they are lying in my studio collecting dust.

  • Film rangefinders. Anyone have anything they're thinking of selling?

  • i have many but I think I will keep the M6 :P I have many 50mm lenses I need to get rid though and one 28mm converted by MS Optics.

Might sell M3 double stroke? Minolta CLE? Lemme check in the loft.

  • Had been eyeing up the cle! Still torn as to whether I'd be happy going meterless tbh. I swing between oh that sounds fun and romantic and Christ that'll be a pain at times.

  • Are you in london?

  • ..frankly it won't be that much of a pain while shooting, but it will certainly sting your wallet if you don't get it right.

It's certainly possible to shoot meter-less - when you're smart / experienced, and use forgiving film, in the right circumstances (read: lots of light / stable light situations).
But forget it if you like to shoot slides, if you have tricky lighting situations, if you're inexperienced with shooting film.

  • I'd rather have it and not need it than vice versa.

  • I've had a few meterless cameras before. Mainly MF though and didn't find it too much of an annoyance. However shooting MF was a completely different process to 35mm imo.

I'd be mainly using black and white film at least to begin with.

Interesting point - how does anyone find shooting dimly lit scenes/ wide open lenses with a manual camera? It's not something I'd really thought about, thinking f2 or below.

  • That was my thought process too

  • Unfortunately not...

  • Shooting with a rangefinder wide open is always a bit of a gamble in terms of nailing focus. I'd imagine once you shoot enough you get a 'feel' for the right exposure. Also interesting to look at old contact sheets (e.g. Magnum and compare them to how the final print comes out. Often lots of manipulation, especially in low light, makes you realise that nailing the exposure is not the be all and end all of a good shot.

  • Meterless and small hotshoe mount meter is what I run, honestly you hardly notice it. Meter anytime the lighting changes massively, bit of guesswork which you get used to quickly and you hardly notice the difference.

  • @amey

    Here's the scanning solution sorted;

  • amazing, mine isnt too far off tbh, an LED copy board, a £30 macro lens and a cheap tripod and whole lotta prayers

  • I'm going to pick up the light board, a cheap macro for my Fuji and some negative holders.

Now all I need to find is a Leica 😅

  • How'd you find it? Quality wise that is.

  • Interesting point - how does anyone find shooting dimly lit scenes/ wide open lenses with a manual camera? It's not something I'd really thought about, thinking f2 or below.

In what regard? This is basically the purpose of and reason for my Leica.

  • I'm just imaging low light wide open being difficult without a meter. I'm probably just overthinking it.

  • I’ve got a good user Leica M6 which I am probably moving on to part-fund a digital M. Any interest? Would have to think about price. It’s in London.
