  • I like how deep this thing is. That’s only 500ml of coffee, so with some bigger v60 filters you could brew a fair amount of coffee into this thing. It says it condensation free even with the lid. Testing that theory at the moment and letting some heat build up with the lid on. Really well made though and very nice to pour from. On first impressions, its worth the $39 I paid I reckon.

  • Took me a second to realise the Cafelat Robot wasn't a frog (toy) sitting in the carafe

  • It is!

Kept my second cup of coffee nice and hot for 45 mins with no condensation or change in flavour. Would buy again!

  • Condensation free, apart from all that condensation? What have I missed here?

[edit: sorry, I realise that reads in a really catty way]

  • That photo was taken immediately after brewing just for the sake of a photo. Because the V60 cone doesn't allow any heat to escape whatsoever, it created some condensation. It disappeared and didn't re-appear after I swirled the coffee around. Didn't explain that very well and the photo certainly didn't help!

  • Can put a vote in for the clever dripper. We use ours all the time, easy to make enough coffee for two cups with minimal effort.

  • I really wanna try one but it's gonna cost me a fortune in filters, isn't it? 🤑

My Aeropress has ruined everything!!! 😂

  • It sounds like a bit of a winner. Someone has just offered me their old dripper though so maybe I'll try the free option first and keep an eye out for a Clever Dripper in the meantime.

  • Having previously recommended a small Chemex as a slightly unconvential suggestion, I accidently ground double the dose for my V60 and had to improvise with my large Chemex today:

  • 🤷 you don't get as many filters in a pack as aeropress, but it makes twice as much coffee? 😂

  • Reckon you could get around 40,000 filters for the price of your scale ;)

  • Ha, fuck off... 😘 I own one of the most expensive scales money can buy for home as well as the cheapest for the office so... 😋 I'm bloody sick of the woodneck cotton filters going mouldy in my fridge so I'll probably get a Clever Dripper just cuz they're quite cheap and seem to work well according to the Hoff... Looks like I'm with you after all, @mrs_socks!!

  • Sorry man, couldn't help myself!

How do you store the cotton filters? I've had a pair of cloth filters for my siphon in a small jar full of water in the fridge for a year or two now and thankfully haven't had any mould issues. Though I guess the siphon filters are stored taut like this:

So there's fewer folds for undesirables to appear when stored. I also pop mine in some boiling water with a bit of cafiza every now and then when they start looking a little less pristine.

  • What's the current water filtration method of choice?

Sounds like people on here are not totally impressed by Peak Water.

The water is off the scales in hardness here.

  • Anyone able to ID this piece of equipement behind the server?

  • I use peak water, the filter itself is really good its just the jug that's a bit shit.

  • The water is off the scales in hardness here.

I see what you did there, nice

  • I've come to like mine. It's not perfect, and the jug is a bit cheap as mentioned, but it definitely makes the coffee taste better. Whether it is better than a normal water filter, I'm not sure!

  • Hario smart 7

  • After my partner melted the scales On the kitchen hob last night, I had to make this mornings V60 by eye. Surprised how well I got by on muscle memory and guesswork. Was a nice cup.

I am going to invest in a set of coffee only scales for the future however...

  • I use BWT with the pink cartridges. Seems fine. Kettle doesn't have any lime in it after about a year's usage.

It's not as good as custom water or high end RO or whatever but it's also a lot fucking cheaper.

  • I've actually never heard of BWT, is it better/cheaper than Brita? I find the Brita filters to be quite expensive for how long they last (London)

  • I need beans. Any recommendations for any of the roasters this side (Wiltshire) of the country?

  • You probably know Round Hill already?
