• If DDR tell me that everything is optimal then I'll take their word for it. These cars have two batteries, I'm wondering if the auxiliary is feeling a bit poorly - or as you say, maybe it's a case of 'they all do that sir'.

  • These are the conditions for the 2019 E class stop / start:

    the ECO start/stop function is switched on.
    the brake system does not require a running engine.
    the outside temperature and atmospheric air pressure is within the range that is suitable for the system.
    the engine is at normal operating temperature.
    no engine diagnosis are active.
    the engine speed is within the range that is suitable for the system.
    the transmission oil temperature is within the range that is suitable for the system.
    the temperature in the vehicle interior is within the set range.
    the fuel tank is sufficiently filled.
    the system detects that there is no moisture on the windscreen when the air conditioning system is switched on.
    the charge level and the voltage of the battery are sufficient.
    the battery temperature is within the range that is suitable for the system.
    the system does not recognise a steep uphill or downhill gradient.
    the bonnet is closed.
    AIR BODY CONTROL does not raise the level.

    You’re literally wasting your money.

  • Ha, that's bonkers, and a pretty useful insight in case I ever have a car with a stop/start!

  • Exactly, also with BMW so I am sure similar across other manufacturers reasons for it not switching the vehicle off are;
    Battery charge low-- it will always make sure the battery is sufficiently charged before allowing switch off.

    Air con function -- windscreen fogging sensors will keep the engine running if the windscreen still needs demisting.
    Air Con-- if the customer has set a temperature for the interior cabin it will keep running until this has been achieved.

    Emissions if the Catalyst (petrol) or DPF (diesel) are not up to efficient operating temperature it will keep the engine running until it is.

    If any system on the car is doing something that requires the engine running it won't switch off.

    Reasons it will restart while switched off;

    Releasing the brake.
    Releasing the clutch
    Steering input to power up power steering.
    Battery level dropping.

    These are the most popular reasons. :)
