• Is anyone actually doing serious miles on a aluminium sprocket?

  • I recently replaced a Miche 20t sprocket (Miche 19t sprockets and above are alloy) because of wear after two years of use. At the same time I replaced the 48t chainring, which was about three years old. They were on a bike I ride between about 1500 and 2000km per year (including in winter and off-road).

  • I’ve got a few years and lots of off road miles on an alloy (Endless Bike Co) SS sprocket. It’s obviously worn, but still works well.

Disclaimer: Yes. I know this thread is in reference to fixed sprockets. My example is meant to illustrate that alloy sprockets can be used without turning immediately to dust.
