  • Beady eye!

    I decided to go all-in with the Tubus Fly as my rack of choice: They're usually mounted with a single strut that attaches to the brake bolt but Winston brazed a little 'doobrie majogger' on top of the bridge for it to screw into (you can kind of see it in the photo).

    Now I'm keeping the Dawes for proper touring, this one will be more of a winter roady thing with only occasional rackage for Audaxes etc.

  • Horses for courses I guess... I popped a few of the black components on my Roberts track frame and was really into how the black and burgundy went together. Low contrast is fun for the eyes!

    In other news, this arrived...

    As recommended by a bike fitter with a pressure pad and a computer, hopefully it will be kinder to my bonchal regions and not look too out of place. I also bought one of the older versions (that looks more like a normal saddle) but actually prefer this one looks-wise as it's stealthier and seems better made. Might put the other one on the Dawes for transbike bonchal consistency.

  • Not overjoyed with the result but will probably keep it as it is for now. There is some pitting which I think is partly the result of the laser-etched '3D+' logos not quite disappearing, and partly something weird caused by corrosion (?) - so not the anodiser's fault.

    The spider has similar marks... caused by the previous owner so not sure what it is, but was hoping re-anodising would get rid of them.

  • Anyway, it looks okay from a distance and matches the Open Pros.
    So not too bad, unless the marks are a sign of something sinister and I'm about to loose all my teeth....

  • Not sure they'll polish out without having to remove a lot of material... they're like little holes / pockmarks. I guess the question is: how much material is it safe to remove?

    But they might be harder to see if the surface was more reflective.

  • Might be worth a try? I don't think you'll do any harm as there's no anodising to lose.

  • The matt silver is freshly anodised...
    One option might be to polish just the front surface and leave the matt ano in the ridges and round the back / sides.

    Anyway, will leave it for a few days and have a think... don't have much free time at the moment and polishing is a lot of work.

  • I think it looks cool as is. You won't see the small marks. You can barely even see them in the photos.

    What was the cost to have it done? Can't remember/be bothered to scroll back to see if you said
