  • Here's the classic Audax phone box: https://goo.gl/maps/CDCv7jWn8yCaZKnH7

  • I did my first fixed gear audax on Saturday. I rode alone, and bumped into someone at the start riding single speed.

I am really, really feeling it in my legs even today but still pretty chuffed with myself.

On the whole this was a good ride to do fixed.

  • amazing stuff! I still havent managed to do one fixed :((((((

  • Good stuff. I've ridden this a couple of times. First back once after leaving the bunch behind and then a couple of years later it was my grrl's first 200k - she rode it on her SS Langster. So this ride seems to have a bit of singlespeed love. :)

We were going to ride a 200k yesterday for her RRTY but bailed as we'd been out the night before and it was a late rise. Ended up doing a very chilly 100k loop. Next weekend looking better for the 200k.

  • @amey I think this one https://audax.uk/event-details?eventId=8618 will be good to do fixed or SS if you want to give it a go! On 16 January though which I understand is the same day as a LFGSS ride.

I am weighing up doing this one fixed too. There's a lot to be said for doing it fixed, really incentivises me to get a move on instead of plodding.

  • This one I've also ridden or volunteered at a few times (it's my club's event). Have bailed on it because of ice once or twice I think. Can get a bit scrappy in the lanes but that's half the fun. :)

  • It was really good last year. I met a very handsome pony.

  • A white chain in the UK is a bold move :D

  • Good ride this, wasn’t it? Think we got very lucky with the weather...

Nice easy ride, but the cold played havoc with my knee! Would definitely ride again (I was on the white Niner RLT9)

  • It's not actually white - just a standard Nexus chain - but it catches the light very well 🤔

Yes ST a banging ride for sure! The roadworks bit at the end was a bit odd but no harm.

  • Ah, trick of the light.

Now it looks like your crank arm is cracked. Then again my eyesight is going downhill fast.

  • That's Heli tape that's covering some 3m reflective stuff I got off the internet.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken and I'm in for a shock on the next ride anyway 😬

  • I see. (well, clearly I don't but I see it now at least)

  • A third of the way through my RRTY attempt after my ride yesterday. Ended up doing a DIY of the London Boroughs Spiral as discussed elsewhere and it was good fun. The wind sucked and the traffic was crap at some sections but it was pretty warm most of the day and was quite the moral boost when I went through places I knew, though when I passed near to my flat when I was 145km I did start to think how easy it would be to sack it in.

Definitely not the best year to have joined AUK but who doesn’t love an added challenge. Been able to get two calendar events Four Minute Mile in September and Cambridge Autumnal in October then DIYs in November and December. All fixed at this point and I don’t have a bike with gears or freewheel so will probably stay that way. Glad that I’m getting the winter rides out of the way first so hopefully the Summer brings a bit more joy when it starts to get a bit grim at the back end of the challenge.

  • Four Minute Mile

That’s a permenant and as well, I was thinking of giving it a go either December or Jan. good route?

  • Yeah I seem to remember it being good. Gets quite lumpy on the back end. Though I think it alternates directions each year so not sure which way round the perm will take you.

  • Glad that I’m getting the winter rides out of the way first

We thought that last year! But the missus missed April-Jul or whatever so gets the fun of a double winter to make up for the gap.

    Good stuff on the spiral.

  • Remember reading that earlier in the year. Hoping it doesn’t happen again or I’d probably just give up

  • I've done RRtY already so don't care but she hasn't. There is no giving up. cracks whip

  • Nearly a year ago now, the pre epidemic The Poor Student.

  • Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, -, -, -, -, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec -> Jan, Feb, Mar to go

  • Entries for the 1000 de Sud in the South of France in September went up this weekend.

What are people's optimism levels about riding euro events this year?

Do you live in Europe? BZZT! Oh, nope sorry UK resident, you guys voted to make travel anywhere other than the Isle of Wight a real PITA. No soup for you!
