Thanks for the concern, but this was a long time ago, in my first ever place.
As I remember it, the old school plumber gave himself about four inches of working room,
from where the lead pipe emerged into the underfloor space,
(I had lifted several floor boards in the kitchen to give him all the access he needed).

I was blessed/cursed with lead in my first place. Couldn't get the Water Company to replace the feed, but got an oldschool plumber to joint in copper and I took it from there.
