Not speaking from personal experience but my two friends who compete in the sky runner world series and who run through alpine winters at over 2,000m wear normal summer trail shoes when running on snow and ice.
I do maybe 5 to 10 runs on snow and/or ice each year and just wear my Asics mud shoes. Im sure specialist shoes are grippier but most of the trick to running on ice is balance rather than shoe traction in my limited experience.

Any ice/snow runners here? Thinking about starting up again but it’s been about 6 years and I now live in Scandinavia. Are those ice bugs shoes worth the cost?
