Yeah, assumed as much, not really a vibe I'd be going for, it would really clash with the large concrete eagle with spread wings sitting atop a Hindu symbol I currently have above my door.

https://shutters.co.uk/ that's actually a great share, actually saved in Notion for real.

inauthentic... draw your line
You've hit the nail on the head.
I'm less keen because they seem a bit on trend. Which makes dropping £k's on something temporary seem less good value.
Solid shutters would probably be cheaper, and nowadays I reckon you could use different materials so you're not coughing up for solid oak jobbies. The only thing is they are a bit more of a faff that just drawing some curtains. Plus you still ideally need curtains as well for noise and warmth in old London houses, so double faff.

there is certainly more to it than my statement but they gained notoriety on the houses of the cotton and sugar plantations (in the colonisation era of America) - prior to that they were just known as shutters
so to say its just name is quite disingenuous for some as I know some people renovating their house have decided against getting them due to the link/connotation the name as

Exactly
See also ‘plantation weddings’ to get a sense of how fucked up it all is

Thanks for this. Will print out and keep in my wallet.
House that we quite like round the corner has a blue hallway. After a quick google it appears it’s not quite the right Hague blue. Knew there was something off about it.

Have they also made sure they never eat sugar, wear cotton or drink tea?

Honestly I don't get that. My guess is going to be that they're Spanish or Morish in origin. Surely it's not yet mandatory to view everything through the prism of North American history and culture.

That looks very nice. Love whatever is climbing on the front... Congrats.

99% of people don't refer to them as Spanish or Morish Shutters.
-
• #39994
Being that no one is suggesting that the companies themselves are in any way racist, maybe a total rebrand of those style of shutters is needed?
Seems a bit nuts to boycott those companies for something outside of their control.
-
• #39995
I don't think it's the companies' fault, and like I said before, I'm not pushing any agenda. It's just to me it seems nuts that it is OK to still have something that is directly, stylistically linked to something so shit, and label it as such. If they were just "shutters" then all I'd have is that I (personally) don't like the look of them.
