Reviving the plantation shutter chat - the place we are shortly moving into has them but I have never seen the attraction. Don’t they just ensure that your room is slightly dark all the time? Also, I am not that keen on the plantation connection... luckily my GF refers to them as plantain shutters which is preferable.
