It would be nice to play a match now and again.

I'll be honest, I don't think it's really meant for those booing or those sceptical about taking the knee. You'll likely never convince them. It's a good reminder that as long as people boo it, it remains important.

True. Did anyone else see the Millwall Supporters Club statement? Absolute garbage and text book "I'm not a racist but..." style excuses.
-
• #154955
To force the move? I’ve got no time for players doing that (it’s also exactly what I would do).
-
• #154956
Yeah, to be fair he’s not the first to do it to Southampton, and most players don’t seem to have any stigma from it, Van dijk was an absolute twat when he wanted to leave us, as was Lallana.

To be honest I thought it had become a bit of an empty gesture and lost its impact until the Millwall fans booed it.
They were a useful reminder of why it's sadly necessary.

heard liam rosenior talking over the weekend, what a class act he is, hope he makes it high up in the fa one day, he wants to continue in management first though, hope he can affect things from that role in the mean time

He’s great isn’t he! I’m assuming you’ve read his articles in the Graun over the years? Got a lot of time for him.

Heard that Rosenior interview, wish him all the best in management, but hope he goes into the political side eventually - he's the kind the game needs.
Speaking of the Graun and racism, Squires totally on point today (comments closed, inevitably):

Don’t read the comments. Sadly football remains a safe space for racists.
-
• #154964
Utterly depressing. Not one positive comment. It's almost funny that a gesture of solidarity and suport of BLM annoys them so much. Racist twats.

Even the officials are at it now.

Fair play to both teams

QPR players big up

Don’t leave out the Sainsbury’s Christmas ad. I’d hate to think that you’re lucky enough to be able to afford a season ticket or even a match ticket and than need to sit next to cunts like that.

At Stamford Bridge this evening the whole crowd applauded as the players (apart from three on the Russian team) took the knee. It was nice to see.

Curious going to a game with so few spectators and a distance between everyone. It was interesting to hear quite how much Kepa controls the game. In the second half when he was down our end he kept a constant barrage of commands to the outfield players placing them in position. Much much Re rhan the Russian had in the first half.
Not the most exciting of matches but glad I went.

Thought Billy Gilmour had a decent game. It was a good opportunity to give our backup players a runout and get some minutes in. Pretty much on a 2 games a week schedule until the new year now. Good turnaround for us after a shaky start to the season, credit where it’s due.

daily mail risks losing 99% of its readership with articles like that

Yeah not really targeting his main audience there. Fuck em.

That is a really well written piece. Unfortunately it will be ignored or spun around by those who choose to ignore the message and choose to surround themselves with the narrative they want to hear.
You'd hope the comparison to remembrance day might put it in perspective for some, but because it's in the Irish Times I reckon there will be quite a few negative responses to that section in particular. Which is also very sad.
