Well, with padded bibs underneath, I did / would. Double layer were you need it least.

Sure, the ability to match a single pair of tights with different chamois types is a big bonus. I have at least three different types of chamois across all the shorts I own and I prefer different ones for different disciplines / saddles / distances.

I've also found the chamois in padded tights has never matched the performance of a shorts chamois.

2 secrets here: with bibs / padless tights combo is that you can use torn / beater bibs underneath. Second one is you can wash the tights less frequently and so your winter kit lasts longer. Gross but true

^ totally, there's plenty of pros (removing the cost of buying multiple pairs of tights being the main one) but I was just commenting on the versatility of a padless tight.

You can wash the padded shorts more aggressively than the tights and preserve their Dwr coating for longer.
I also have a broken in leather saddle that's usually more comfortable without a pad.

Try Halo Sports wash. It works really well even on a 30 degrees short spin and is very gentle on the fabric (you can wash merino with it).
