is he allowed to call LV himself?

I don't see why not, I called the other party's insurer numerous times when someone drove into my parked car. If you have the other guy's name, address and reg then they should be able to get the details for you.

Interesting, may see if he wants to do this. He just spoke to LV again, apparently the guy is now not claiming responsibility, not sure how that will work on for him, my brother was on the roundabout, and his back passenger door is caved, hard to see how it is not his fault.
