Sure, the ability to match a single pair of tights with different chamois types is a big bonus. I have at least three different types of chamois across all the shorts I own and I prefer different ones for different disciplines / saddles / distances.
I've also found the chamois in padded tights has never matched the performance of a shorts chamois.

No, the times, they are a changing. People want pads now. I guess they just don't know the versatility of padless tights.
