• Popped into my local Richer Sounds yesterday 10.30am to order a couple of Xmas presents. Prices were good and the staff were nice. They offered to post to my house free. Goods just arrived! Plus Jonathan Richer seems a decent employer. 10/10 will shop again.

  • I think they are the only 'discounter' type retailer of any sort thats actually decent. Staff in any store i've visited over 10-20 years have been spot on, know their stuff, aren't contracending and aren't pushing you into something thats no use to you.
They seem to play along nice with independent retailers too, helped a few times when they didn't have the stock but they knew a local shop that might and the other way around.

I'm from Cumbria, so tend to use Peter Tyson, been based in Carlisle forever, again decent folk.

  • contracending

Since this is (more or less) a neologism, you should expand on your understanding of its meaning and claim credit 🙂

  • This is interesting, I remember them having the opposite reputation 15-20 years ago, so good to hear they have turned things around.

  • I thought he sold the company to the employees when he wanted to retire. There was a decent article knocking around about him and in fairness despite the pile 'em high sell 'em cheap look of the shops it's a model that has worked for years.

The only problem I find generally with the products is they tend to have stock of stuff which is second best in terms of features etc. and the 'best' stuff of the day is supplied to order or not available. In that respect it serves quite well for people who want something in a hurry and need to see or touch it first.

The one near London Bridge station in the 80's took a lot of my money just because it was between the office and the station.
