  • It actually doesn’t feel any different at ~95 than it does at ~65, which is interesting. Engine noise level stays the same, as does wind noise.

Having 7 gears is novel, 26.2 mpg for today, hopefully when I get the stop/start working that will be very slightly better.

  • Hold the RIP thread, the golf club thread shall live once more, reports of your death were premature. The collective LFGSS concernomometor has been shut down. Bets are now being taken on how many tiny things you can spend large amounts of readies on.

  • It did make me laugh that we were all worried about where he was. Turns out he was just off spending more cash on car stuff, quelle surprise!

  • I'm just jelly. Pleased you are pleased with it. Its a bonny car.

  • I’d have loved to be home earlier but it worked out to be less time overall to go Wakefield>Swindon>London.

The wheels I collected look (it was dark) perfect, which makes them something of a bargain - let’s hope I still feel that way when I’ve seen them in daylight.

The engine in this car is very turbine like - in the C55 it had a lot of torque but you had to get it spinning for it to really start to shift, with accompanying NASCAR soundtrack.

The E63 is ready to go fast at any revs, at once- I can’t detect any turbo lag which is interesting, and very much not inline with my last turbocharged estate car.

  • Well in other turbo news it raised a little smile to see this in the wild earlier. Parked near the Adam and Eve pub in Norwich. There is little I can say about it

  • Mate. I am extremely jealous.

Edit: that was addressed at @Dammit

Not that I'm not impressed by a Maestro.

  • NH- you’re welcome to take it for a spin, just don’t prang it.

  • You should be, the MG 1600 came with downdraught carbs that are worth more than the car when the cars started to fail MOT for rust. While the Turbo was quite fun.

  • 80’s flash back. My Dad said the MG version of that was the worst handling car he’d ever driven, literally bending in the middle, and he tested many. Not that it was designed for that. When I see one I just see Beige M&S socks.

  • I’ve a lot of time for this in stoke newington and the decals .

  • Lets keep the BL car theme going.. MG Maestro is tick.

Glad to hear that poshwankercar is home

  • Wheel offset. Going to pick some winter wheels tomorrow. Only just realised the offset is 3mm different. Going from ET47, new wheels are et44. Is this likely to fuck me up?

Can I just bang some spacers like these on if the wheel doesn’t clear the calliper, or is it more complicated than that?

  • Did you move out of london so people can stop judging you for doing school runs in a car? ;)

    Xo

  • Lower offset means they will sit 3mm further out, rather than 3mm closer in - so it would be a case that you would want to check that they don't rub the wheel arches.

  • I bet you a thousand pounds that an extra 3mm won't hit the arch.

The new owner of my C55 found this article where Harry Metcalfe drove it.

  • DCT box? I’m really impressed with the one in our Seat, much smarter than any I’ve used in rentals over the years and stick it in sport and the whole drivetrain is so responsive it makes overtaking almost bike like - open throttle and go.
    45mpg on a 60mile mixed run yesterday!

  • Yeah, I did mean to add that 3mm is nothing and that you will likely be absolutely fine.

  • @Dammit video with audio please :)

  • One more spot from the other day I forgot to post. This P reg Celica that is clearly a daily driver - kids seat in the back. Love the shapes of the older Toyotas.

  • Useful! Cheers man. According to this it should be totally fine. Although my worry is that because they’re 1 series wheels, the 3 series callipers will be too big. Although apparently it was only the 330s and M3s that had significantly bigger callipers.
    🤷‍♂️
Anyway, time to drive 80 miles to find out.

  • stick it in sport and the whole drivetrain is so responsive it makes overtaking almost bike like - open throttle and go.

I tried that yesterday, spun both rear wheels on the motorway slip-road.

  • Saw one of these Daihatsu Fortracks in deepest Bedfordshire yesterday, looked tiny but purposeful. Anyone know if they're any good?
