  • they look like carbon arundel mandible?

    (I've got knock-off ones from ali-express)

  • They are eBay carbon.

  • was wondering if they were Arundel. Glad to hear there's a (presumably) cheaper version, cheers.

  • Hi everyone. Wanna say this forum has inspired me to build my own MGOOF. Stripped the old parts, got it airbrushed and set up with 105.

  • That's gorgeous paint work. Can I have the contact for the painter? I want to get a frame repainted.

I'd remove the wheel decals, and maybe lower the stem. Then 10/10.

  • Great improvements, colour choice is choice.

  • Thanks! Unfortunately, I’m not from UK. I’m a Singaporean and got it painted by a local guy who does custom works for motorbike helmets.

Agree with removing the decals, wanna run-in them first to ensure no issues before doing so.

  • Hey everyone, where I live everything closed down again so I decided to make use of all the free time we got and rebuild my old Vitus Argal. I was on a very very tight (student) budget but I think it worked out very well (plus I got all the parts in mint condition real cheap). There is a day and night difference in the ride quality, I love it. I didn’t really know what to expect because I am not an experienced cyclist and this is my first build. What do you guys think? (some thing still need to be changed - stem, pedals, bottle cages and a black bar tape) :)

  • I like it!

I think the chunky stem matches nicely with the chunky cranks, give the bike a bit of muscle. Personally I would follow that theme through - keep the stem but change the seatpost to something with more beef.

Black bar tape is definitely a good idea.

  • Great first effort. If it were me the first thing i'd be looking to change are those bars to something more compact and less bulky looking. If you're thinking of changing the stem you can choose between 25.4 or 26.0 bars, there's a pretty comprehensive list of the latter here

If you do change the bars maybe try them first with your current stem to gauge what length works for you with compacts (current bars look looonnnggg). Get whatever clipless pedals you're comfortable riding in and for cages i'm a big fan of King stainless on neo retro builds

  • Thanks for the tips! I will consider the stem, it is just a bit too long for me. About the seatpost - Vitus apparently was not a fan of standard seatpost diameters - Argals came with this extremely narrow 24.3mm seatpost so basically if you have one you are stuck with it. I like it nevertheless.
Will keep posting when buying new stuff :)

  • Thanks for the idea, what is your opinion on ahead adapters? The reason I kept my cockpit the way it is is because of the Stronglight headset - I really like the looks of it and it is quite rare as far as I know?

  • It's not the stem that is too long, it's the bars that have a long reach and also currently at a wrong angle (increasing said reach further). With bars from the link provided by Jono the reach will be way more manageable.

Ahead adapters are to be avoided.

  • what is your opinion on ahead adapters?

Aesthetically they look shit, function wise they work and can make finding the right setup a lot easier. Additionally going Q/A will allow modern O/S stem and bars (31.8) which will probably feel stiffer. Personally i think it would ruin the look but have a browse here for some inspiration

If the reach currently feels long then all the more reason to change the bars. You say the stem it too long but it looks bang on for that frame and you could probably shave 20mm reach of the bars.

  • beat me to it

  • That’s some good food for thought. I didn’t really think much of the bars until now.

  • Thanks for the tips guys, this really helped a lot! :)

  • Sam at Fish Fabrications is very good at fades. Based in Essex.

  • Just finished building, Sancineto Max (1997) + Campy SR 11spd + Bora 60

I’m pretty happy with the outcome.

Probably need to copy-paste into Societa Sancineto thread as well

  • Absolutely amazing

  • Very good, indeed ideal

  • Another great page on the forum’s best thread!

  • Such a banger. Prepared to overlook the use of ‘Campy’.
