That's the era of double albums with A/C B/D so you could play without interruption on 2 decks.

I guess the modern equivaltent would just be an extra input switch box? Haven't noticed phono stages that take more than one input, but given I have two turntables could actually see it being sort of useful - I mean, the DJ mixer is essentially that with a likely worse amplifictation stage.
Should probably just get saving for a very fancy DJ mixer :|

My 70s amp has a inbuilt phono stage which is just connected to one phono input but not to the second one.

I have about 10 mixers from thinking on those lines! My current 'hifi' setup is based around a 96/24k digital mixing desk.
I'm visualising really keen 70's hifi buffs with pipes and beards getting deep into some prog rock.

Lighting flash of inspiration. One is probably MC and the MM. Moving coil or Moving magnet.

this - my Rega phono stage has two inputs, but one is MM the other MC

The Shibata cut stylus was developed to play those. I think the info for the quadrophonic sound is up in the 40k frequencies.

From a quick Google:
Two record players could be connected, initially both of the type with ceramic pickups, though an optional preamplifier could be fitted inside the Beomaster so that a B&O magnetic pickup could be connected directly.
The matching turntable was also available with an optional inbuilt phono stage, so if I wanted another one I'd need that for the other channel on the amp.

All this 70's talk has got me thinking about a linear tracking deck. Why don't we all have those yet?
or I guess an LP12

I think the only implementations which were audiophile grade were fantastically expensive and didn't sound any better than a good conventional tone arm.
When I was a boy, the perennial vapour-ware was a non-contact vinyl reader which was going to use laser interferometry to provide a perfect analogue reproduction of the groove. Then the iPod was invented and both record companies and listeners stopped caring about quality because quantity was cheaper.

There's a video somewhere of a Japanese guy demonstrating one he developed not too long ago.
https://diffuser.fm/laser-turntable/
There's a german guy trying to develop a system cutting disks with a laser. I guess he could cut negatives to press with but his long term aim was to cut them individually. I think he mentioned a ceramic material for the disk.

It's funny how there are no retrogrouches/hipsters/poseurs/mad scientists trying to make ludicrously high end analogue video systems 🙂

yet.
Many years ago a friend visited a flatmate and had a cheap video camera, the Fischer Price one. A similar type had been for some of the footage in Slacker - Richard Linklaters movie.
On that basis we sold the camera to the London Film Museum.
That was the early 90's so it should be back in fashion anytime soon.

I know people are using shit analogue image recording for hipster points, but they are not pursuing high fidelity in the way that still happens with audio.
-
• #9118
High end is there for analogue video, it's just hugely expensive and out of reach for anyone bar Hollywood studios.

Indeed. Lovely video compared with VHS, and you got one of the best CD transports available into the bargain when you bought the Pioneer CLD-1450. Not much good to anybody now that you can stream almost anything you want in HD. Not the most convenient format either, I've just looked and my Blues Brothers set is on 3 sides.

Yeah, very much high end analogue (motion film) is still a thing - its what has kept Kodak in business.
Not many people have the space or equipment for 35mm (or 70mm) projection though.... -

Transforming old valve projectors into guitar amps is a thing. https://guitar.com/guides/diy-workshop/diy-workshop-bell-howell-filmosound-amp-conversion-part-1/

Popped into my local Richer Sounds yesterday 10.30am to order a couple of Xmas presents. Prices were good and the staff were nice. They offered to post to my house free. Goods just arrived! Plus Jonathan Richer seems a decent employer. 10/10 will shop again.

I think they are the only 'discounter' type retailer of any sort thats actually decent. Staff in any store i've visited over 10-20 years have been spot on, know their stuff, aren't contracending and aren't pushing you into something thats no use to you.
They seem to play along nice with independent retailers too, helped a few times when they didn't have the stock but they knew a local shop that might and the other way around.I'm from Cumbria, so tend to use Peter Tyson, been based in Carlisle forever, again decent folk.

contracending
Since this is (more or less) a neologism, you should expand on your understanding of its meaning and claim credit 🙂
It was that crazy apparently. Phono 1 is kaput. 2 works like a dream. At the moment....
