House Plants: Advice, Pics, Sell and Trade

We have one and love it! Such a beautiful dark green.

Be aware, it really does spread in radius quite a lot as it grows, we've moved ours three times as it like a lot of space on every side!

Gulp, thanks for that. How tall is yours? planning to locate something special in my bay window, is it shade tolerant or prefers well lit space?

We’ve got a similar plant (IKEA impulse purchase) it’s a ginseng right?
Ours did the same and I think it was in part under watering and part change of environment - they’re a bit fickle. The other problem is the branches are quite woody and once they lose the dense leaf, new growth tends to be sprawling offshoot branches which kinda ruins the shape.
It’s probably been about a year since ours shed its leaves, I repotted in bonsai soil and feed with bonsai liquid (just seems to be a seaweed mix) every couple of weeks. I soak mine knowing it will drain though, YMMV. Still building up the courage to go full bonsai.

Does anyone want any House Begonia? I recently pruned the a plant I have and took cuttings have about 6 plants to give away great purple greeny colour

My mouth is watering right now. Where about are you?

Also did you put the cuttings in water first or straight into soil? I accidentally broke off a pair of wings from my begonia snow capped and I am keeping my fingers crossed they will root in water...

I have a braided pachira aquatica that has been slowly dying pretty much ever since I got it a few years ago, it's now only got 2 of the original 5 stems alive.

Any suggestions for other tree-like, tall (1.5m+ ideally) houseplants that aren't super expensive or too fussy?

what are the best options in terms of difficult to kill in a not very bright old english house?

The usual suspects aren’t the usual suspects for nothing...

Aspidistra (not called cast iron plant for nothing), ferns (used to growing under canopy shade - some can be fussy though), jade plant (grows anywhere), silver inch plant (purple variegated leaves - ours copes well with neglect), mother in law’s tongue (impossible to kill in offices everywhere - only water when compost is dry), spider plants (favourite of 70s bathrooms + have babies and you’ll have a house full in no time), calatheas (interesting variegated foliage)...

Plus the ubiquitous monstera

Peace lilies are also great as they don't need much light

nice haul!

I got this little guy on offer at B&Q but it seems to be struggling ... it's in a bright spot ... soil not too wet or too dry ... any tips?

Looks like it's had a bit of a tough experience. But actually looks relatively ok.
Maybe just needs some time to chill. It is winter after all.
Also maybe take off that bottom leaf that's damaged and give the others a wipe. Looks like they're a bit manky and maybe not getting full light through?

As well as giving the healthy leaves a good wipe, try and water it with distilled water or even better rainwater to slowly get rid of the white spots on the udnerside.

Also, they don't like cold weather, I have wrapped mine in bubble wrap...

i might need to try and find a more efficient way of trapping rain water ...
