Other than a couple of grams what's the point?
-
• #4
Expect them to last about 2 minutes

Velosolo, EAI (increasingly hard to find), Talon made for St. John Street Cycles (seem to have been discontinued), trials brands like Trial-tech, Jitsie, etc (tend to have a wider base, so may affect chainline).
Why? They tend to run quieter.
So long as your chainline is straight, the warnings about longevity are bunkum. -

steel is an alloy as well, which means you can broaden your search
-
• #7
Think the Miche ones are alloy..

spam I have a 17t and a 19t Zeus alu sprockets for sale

Ha, thanks for the helpful advice from those that offered it! Will look into some of those mentioned.
I used the Token ones on my steeds for years now and get enough miles out of them (so a tad more than 2 mins) to justify the weight saving! Remember guys, weight is the cyclist enemy. ;)

And cogs are not the place to be trying to save it
-
• #12
don't let dave brailsford hear you say that
-
• #13
Ha. By all means, save weight everywhere you can but unless you’re on a 5kg hill climb bike, I reckon there’s more sensible places to shave some grams
-

I do like the ping you get from a tooth snapping off
-
• #15
you can ping 'em off steel too
-
• #16
Wonder if it sounds the same 🤔

unless you’re on a 5kg hill climb bike
I reckon if your on a 5kg hillclimb bike your probably putting out enough power that you could worry the threads on an ali cog.
I actually think that anywhere that an ali cog is the next logical step in weight saving this is probably the case.

Probably. Is 6 bolt the way forward for the durability concerned aspiring weight weenie, I wonder.
-
• #19
6 bolt...weight weenie
Not sure about that, least not using an XT hub and steel axle I don't think.
-
• #20
Miche aluminium cogs are fine and inexpensive.
-
• #21
I have shaved it off everywhere else, only cogs left :P

How to get images showing peeps?
-
• #23
If it's in Google photos you'll need to host it somewhere that gives you a URL for the actual image file - one that ends in .jpeg or something. You could also attach the file directly to your post.
How much do you weigh?

Sugino GIGAS?

Ok, will try again!
not sure tbh, about 11st i think.
Not seeing any other manufacturers making alloy sprockets?
And Token ones seem to be a bit thin on the ground...
