Yeah, a girl I worked with has Indian parents & her cousins apparently used to take the piss because her skin was darker than theirs, saying she was an untouchable & would never get a nice man - they were joking of course, but if their parents hadn't all emigrated then it might be less funny

I spent about 20 years calling my Pakistani friend's little brother khalia as that was what they all called him and I assumed it was just some Urdu pet name. Got informed that it is a derogatory name for black people, basically 'blackie' as he has the darkest skin tone in the family. Quite the eye opener

That’s a big thing in India, darker skin mean you’re inferior, and being fair skinned is the best thing.

India is famous for everyone looking alike and certainly never had a whole system based around that not being the case.
